1998 50" Rear Projection Hitachi Model #50SBX70B--NO picture

TV had been working fine, until last week. TV was running for about 1/2 hour and I looked up and there was NO picture, but the sound worked perfectly. I have tried turning TV off/on several times with no luck, but the sound still works. The TV is in a basement, and I am 50 miles from nearest servicecenter that will look at it. And the round trip will cost me $150 to just have him come to the house without even diagnosing the problem. Can you offer any suggestions of restoring picture, or should I just purchase a new set with HD tuner? I have no television repair knowledge. But I wondered if removing the back panel if there may be something as simple as a fuse, or some item I could remove and take to his repair shop to have it inspected.

my hitatchi powers on but no picture or sound

We were watching a movie then all of a sudden...no picture and no sound. Has anyone had this problem? We bought the tv in 2003.

My tv has stopped working for a week now, just turned off, have no sound or picture.
Have tried to turn off for a bit and then tried to turn back on, still the same.
there was no loud sound from tv. to think it was the bulb and the picture looked great till just went blank, and freinds say they think it's fuse. Was wondering if you you can let me know what
I can do ASAP. Thx so much.

1998 50" Rear Projection Hitachi Model #50SBX70B--NO picture

You should try to do an A/C reset on this unit. You will need to power the unit down, then unplug the unit from the wall, leave it for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. The other thing you might want to do is check your input source, if the input source is some sort of set top box, you might want to try the same with it, only leaving it for 1 whole minute. If these don't work, you probably will need to contact service.

My 50SBX70B doesn't start

There are many reasons for a no start on your 50SBX70. I will give you the most common problem I have found. Check E994( 4a pico fuse on the 120v line in pwr supply) If it is bad, remove C701(.001/2kv) from the circuit located near Q777. Inspect the capacitor for any burn marks, if so put in a new fuse and leave the cap out and fire up the set.
