SHARP aquos 1080p HDTV: VCR image flickers when playback
I have an old Sony hlv-660hf VCR; worked perfectly for my recording needs until I hooked it up to my SHARP aquos LC-32D62U 1080p HDTV. The image on playback started flicking in a very regular fashion: 2 second image, 2 second black screen; 2 second image, 2 second black screen, etc... I tried everything with the connections, even got a NEW vcr, hooked it up, same problem even though i tried different hook-ups, ie. s-video, regular, etc.. It leads me to think the problem is with the TV or connections; fact that it is 1080p? Am totally slumped, can anyone help me??
have the same problem with a new aquos lc-37d62u connected to a panasonic pv-d744s combo vcr/dvd player approx 5 years old. conneted composite video to various input ports with same result. used same vcr/dvd player with two other aquos sets lc-26ga4u and lc-g5c32u with no play back problem with the vcr. contacted sharp trouble desk, no help, suggested that it was a vcr trouble. since other people are having same trouble I might revisit sharp's trouble desk and ask them to escalate it. have the same problem with a new aquos lc-37d62u connected to a panasonic pv-d744s combo vcr/dvd player approx 5 years old. conneted composite video to various input ports with same result. used same vcr/dvd player with two other aquos sets lc-26ga4u and lc-g5c32u with no play back problem with the vcr. contacted sharp trouble desk, no help, suggested that it was a vcr trouble. since other people are having same trouble I might revisit sharp's trouble desk and ask them to escalate it.

I have the same problem with a Sharp LC42D62U Aquos LCD HDTV connected to an older SONY VCR. The SONY VCR works fine with my older Panasonic GAO but with the Sharp the image constantly flickers. Well I do not know either machine but suspect if the video is old either your video's output is too rough for the TV because:-
It has some age related problem of wear.
The output signal is not quite correct in quality.
There may be a security signal applied on its recording material.
These are some of the issues, videos are very sloppy (by todays standard) but could get away with it with analogue TV's because of wider design variables inherent in that system.
Modern TV,s are less hardware more software driven and as such are critical about errors going to a blank screen as a way of escape an issue they can't resolve (mummy mummy!).
The video may need checking for mechanical or electronic issues, a favourite being power supplies which can generate noise from defective components that disturbe other equipment, or mechanical alignment which changes through wear and time.
You could try conversion to hdmi signal though cheap converters are limited in their method of doing this but might show you if it would work.
Cheap versions are about £10 but have no level controls (contrast, brightness or colour to trim for best picture)
I have the same model TV and the following worked for me. I am using A/V cables attached to Input1 on back of the TV.
On your Sharp TV remote control:
1. Select the Input (1-5) that is attached to your VCR.
2. Go to the menu and select options.
3. Change your color system to NTSC.
This should stop your picture frome flashing on and off.
You still may have a issue with the screen colors. I don't know of a way to address this, other than to make the picture monochrome.

Have the same problem. Old laptop works fine connected to Sharp Aquas LC 46D65U. New HP 17 envy connected by same hdmi cable has intermittent flickering (screen shuts between 1 and 2 seconds. Computer works fine on other tv's. .HP tech support says its not the laptop. TV's 5 years old. Tried 2 HDMI cables. (one suggestion was to change the tv output to 1080i or 1080p opposite to current selection, but I havent figured out how to do that yet). Wondering if its a window 8.1 issue....windows 7 works fine on the old laptop.
Press the menu button and scroll over to the setup sub category. Scroll down to reset and press enter. Select yes and then enter. Select yes again and press enter. The television will turn itself off and then back on.
If that basic reset doesn't work call 877-332-7867 to be walked through the no sound troubleshooting up to an INIT. I cannot put the steps for an INIT into print because any wrong move could erase everything from your television.
The format from the PC needs to be an HDTV format: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p. Other formats will generally not work. You may need to get the latest drivers from your video card manufactures website to correct the problem. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.
using the magnovox remote, reprogram the vcr's channels. set it up to use cable not air. when the vcr was unlugged it lost it's channel memory. don't buy new cables, you're getting a picture and sound so that means your rca cables are ok.
When you use component audio, it may shut off the side a/v audio settings. Try restoring all defualts (any changes you have made will be lost by doing so) according to p. 32 of the manual:
Menu --> Setup --> Reset --> Yes
I have the same problem when going to dark scenes from a bright scene or during channel changes. Sharp sent a tech under warranty and he installed new software to no avail. He called sharp tech support and they suggested turning on opc. The TV works fine but you must adjust sharpness and contrast to achieve an acceptable picture. I paid $868.00 for the set a Sam's club and will buy an extended warranty. I will not buy another sharp. My 40" sony works perfectly.
I had the same problem, but it looked like my son pressed the view mode button on the remote. I set it back to Dot by Dot and it looks perfect again. Try it out.
