Getting beep sound when i start my laptop R61, cannot start

  • Anonymous May 14, 2010

Most computers do beep _ONCE_ to indicate that the POST (Power On Self Test) has _SUCCESSFULLY_ completed, and that the computer is about to start to "boot" from your disk-drive. Remove any CD-disks and USB-devices and 3.5" diskettes.

Hi. I think the problem on your machine is the RAMS if you here the beeping sound. I would suggest that you remove the memory and clean the contact points with an eraser but make sure that you remove all the receduces and also make sure that when you plug them back you should double check if they are properly seated. If you still having the same issue after doing the troubleshooting step then try a known good memory so that you could make sure that the problem is not with the memories you have.

How to reset lenovo thinkpad r61?

Hi,

Please follow the steps below to reset the lenovo to factory settings
Note: All your data will be lost. So keep that in mind.
So take the backup of your data first in a separate HDD or flash drive.

1. Switch off the Computer
2. Press the power button and then immediately start tapping f11 key on the top of your keyboard.
3. You will hear a beep sound and then stop pressing it.
4. You will get the screen says windows is loading files. Wait untill it finishes.
5. Select the default language which is US and Click on next .
6. Enter your login credentials (username and password) if you use to login to the windows.
7. Then you will get the system Recovery Options screen where you need to select the last option "Lenovo Product Recovery"
8. Again preferred language will be English US and hit Next.
9. Accept the terms and conditions and hit next and then hit Yes on the warning.
10. Then it will start resetting the Lenovo Think pad to the factory default with no previous data. Same as when you purchased it.

If you have any query you can ask before restoring the Computer.
Hope this helps you. Reply if that fixes your issue.

Lenovo r61 screen

Open the panel on the back and remove the ram. Boot the computer. If the boot code changes then it's probably bad ram. If it's the samew beep code then probably a bad motherboard

I am hearing 4 beeps 4 times during power on, but system does not start- IBM thinkpad lenovo R 61

Usually this means that the memory is defective or has been removed or popped loose in its sockets. Try to reseat the memory DIMMs or replace them.

Slow processing and start up on thinkpad r61

sounds like you have too much data on your hard drive and possibly too much stuff starting up with your computer so use jkdefrag, msconfig, startup control panel and ccleaner to clear and clean up the data on your laptops hard drive.

Use ccleaner first which you can get here
and then defrag your hard drive afterwards using
jkdefrag which is here

msconfig you can access by going to start --> run and type msconfig and press enter or click on ok and then go to the startup tab and stop things running that you dont need to run although using startup control panel which is here would be a lot easier and better as you can check the run keys in the registry as well as the startup and run once keys and make sure only the things you need to run at startup are actually booting up.

Once you have done that see if it is any better and post back

IBM Lenovo Thinkpad R61 gets 1 long & 2 short beeps on startup

Try this:
Open two RAMs, clean them properly and connect only one RAM then try. If nothing changes, then remove the RAM and insert the other one. And try again.

If this fails too, then there is a good chance that you have motherboard related problem

Lenovo R61 won't get to login

Hi,
I,d suggest To charge the battery Fully.
Then power up the laptop, with A/C Adaptor connected.
Also check your models user manual, regarding the sleep/hibernate mode. the laptop may have gone into one of these modes. Usually a ( zzz ) Icon Key or Similar.
Also when booting press the LCD/VGA Button.
If all else fails, try to see if your laptop, has a hard-reset button or switch. ** Sometimes this can be a small hole ** On the underside of laptop. *** Only use with laptop Powered Off ***
