Location of fuel pump on 1999 ford escort

It's in the gas tank. Just make sure the fuel pump is the problem and not something else. Check for applicable trouble codes. There are some codes for the fuel pump driver module.
There is also an inertia switch, something to check.

Check engine code po442

Most likely causes
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal
  • Defective vent valve
  • Defective purge valve
  • Defective leak detection pump

2002 mountaineer v6 car will start n try to idle then die scanner said bad oil sensor changed that n no change checked fuel pressure it fine checked volts to coil pack n it's fine ?? Frustrated

i would check the throttle position sensor first, check for vacuum leaks, egr valve, i read a few things were people talking about a o ring under the separator. which is under the intake manifold. i would check the easy ones first before pulling your intake manifold off

    Fuel pump leak

Looks like it may be a fuel return line from the fuel manifold . It may be split or loose . Probably both . Get a new section of fuel hose and some good clips and replace it

what code is it?po440,p0455?If it is one of those codes it means you have a large evap system leak not a vacuum leak by the engine.the evap leak is most likely a inop vent valve or a fuel cap not properly sealing.

Having the same problem on a 2005 4.3l....... replaced plugs, dist. cap, coils, and cam sensor. o2 sensor is good. idles great till you push the gas, then it misfires. timing was checked it was fine. ...

Something is probably leaning out the mixture when you open the throttle. It seems that any ignition issues have been ruled out.

So, check the following: fuel filter clogged, low fuel pump pressure, the fuel pressure regulator could be stuck at the idle setting, the EGR valve could be stuck open, faulty throttle position sensor (TPS) or circuit, faulty manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, faulty or dirty manifold air flow (MAF) sensor, faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, and an air leak into the intake duct or manifold between the MAF and the throttle body. I think if the intake manifold gasket had a leak, it would be misfiring at idle.

Ask the shop if any of the above checks have already been accomplished. I'll bet most of them have, but one may have been overlooked.

    Po 442 po 455

P0442 - Evaporative Emissions System Leak Detected (Small Leak)

P0455 - Evaporative Emissions System Leak Detected (Gross Leak)

This diagnosis detects leaks in the EVAP purge line using engine intake manifold vacuum. If pressure does not increase, the ECM will check for leaks in the line between the fuel tank and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve under the following vacuum test condition. The vacuum cut valve bypass valve is opened to clear the line between the fuel tank and the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve. The EVAP canister vent control valve will then be closed to shut the EVAP purge line off. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is opened to depressurize the EVAP purge line using intake manifold vacuum. After this depressurization is implemented, the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve will be closed.

    Causes:
    - Missing Fuel cap
    - Incorrect fuel filler cap used
    - Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
    - Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
    - Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve
    - Leak is in line between intake manifold

    Solutions:
    - Re-tighten or replace fuel tank filler cap
    - Replace damaged or leaking EVAP canister
    - Replace damaged or leaking lines.

Engine blowing oil from oil filler cap

I had the same problem. I changed the pcv valve and checked the hose. It still did the same thing. Then I checked the metal tubing that the hose connects to and found it was full of hardened gunk. I sprayed PB Blaster into the tube let it soak for awhile. Then took an old choke cable, put it on a drill and ran it into the tube like a drain snake. It took a while of doing this over and over but eventually got it cleared out. Now, no more oil all over the engine and hood compartment.
