Power Cord When I plug in the power cord for the latitude c840 the green light dosent come on, on the power cord. Resulting in me having to use battery power. Whats wrong with my power cord

You have to disconnet your power supply from the mains by pulling out power cord then the open the side pan of your cabinet and locate the ram.remove the ram and resit it in another slot. then connect your power cord to the power supply of your pc then switch on.
If the problem is not solved then again remove the power cord and remove the cmos battery from the motherboard and wait for 20 seconds,then put it back.and power on the system. if the problem is not solved then try with another powe supply.still problem is there then your motherboard may be bad.you have to replace the motherboard.

Try turning it on without the battery and the power cord connected

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

Disable the "allow the computer to disable this (network adapter) to save power when running on battery power".

there is a short circuit onnthe laptop motherboard usually it's power ic's that are next to the power socket that block the power from going to other parts so you should change those ic's

well if the laptop worked till there was charge in the secondry battery its an issue with the cord or the port that connects the powercord to the laptop. ie the inlet on the laptop. check these two as well.

The test Dell advises to narrow down this issue is to remove the battery, hard drive, ram, and optical drive.  Next plug in the a/c power cord and you should get some LED's coming on. If not it points to the motherboard.

Do you see a green charging light when you plug it in?
If not, i would reccmond scraping it for parts and sell it on ebay, craigslist or somewhere else.

It's a pretty common problem (Power pin failure). The pins/sockets are poorly designed and poorly constructed. The day-in and day-out jerking and pulling on the cable causes the failure.

This video talks about using a cable retention device to stop the problem. I have tried the product and it works really well.
