This is a SONY model CDP-491 single disc player purchased in June 1961. It was working fine these 20 years - enjoyed - not abused. Played a disc fine a week ago, tried to play the next day and got the
error message "no disc", and same message since. Doesn't play. Read & tried the on-line suggestions with no luck.
I am an OLD audiofil - designed and built equipment since I was 15 years, a radio amateur, TV teacher and engineer, etc. am now 89!
Please give me a clue...
Dr. OM,
Lets give it a try. The purchasedate will be 1991 (HI).
I'll suppose you allready cleaned the laserunit.
You can try to clean the laserslides, sometimes they are sticky and dry. Then the laser is not fast and precise enough to read the index of your CD.
Clean them with some alcohol on cottontips.
When they are really clean, use just a little teflonoil to make sure the laserunit slides very smoothly.

Testimonial: "Dear OM (Gerard). RIGHT ON !!! Your help was appreciated very very much. Your suggestion worked immediatelly. When you get to be nearly 90, things you did without hesitation become cautious prospects. Thanks and 73's - W2LRP (Harry)"
