The easiest and least damaging way to open the Rio Carbon is to start at the bottom of the player and pry it open a little until you can see the tabs. You have to push those to release them. Work you way around clockwise and there are tab a little further into the player, you have to pull the bottom of those out to release them. I did it last night and was able to repair the volume wheel and get the player back together and it works.

Pearl rio carbon mp3 player 5gig

The microdrive is probably broken. Some people have claimed that if you give the sides a sharp tap then it has worked again but if this doesn't work then you probably require a new player. I have managed to replace the microdrive with a CF card in my Rio carbon, this has worked for many people may not work for you (you can read this: Replace broken hard drive with CF card if you want to try)

Hope this helps,

Carbon Pearl: Invalid Argument

Try accessing the rio's hard drive through my computer to see if it can find the songs: they will be in a folder aptly called music within your rio carbon.

If this doesn't help then if it is picked up via my computer you could try wiping and rebooting your rio, read:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r601327-wipe_reboot_rio_carbon

You may have to change the firmware for the rio carbon pearl but this is easy to find on their website.

Hope this helps,

Unit will not stay turned on.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

You would literally have to break it open with a screwdriver or wedge, smashing/damaging other components in the process (trust me, I did it).

Rio Pearl dropped.

Hi, I found the following info on the Rio site, hope it helps you. They qoute a fixed rate of 99$, i'm not sure it's worth it in your case... maybe you should find a repair person with good hands that can help with it. here's the info : "out-of-warranty returns can be replaced for a fixed cost to you. The out-of-warranty fee for your Rio Carbon player is $99. Please note, at this time we do not REPAIR defective or broken units; we will REPLACE them. You can purchase a replacement unit at http://system.s2gstore.com/site/RioAudio/mp3playerssale.htm. For units that are in warranty, this process is known as a ?Swap-Ship? because when the defective unit is returned to Rio by you we swap it for a replacement unit (send a replacement to you). If you are interested in participating in the out-of-warranty program, please reply or contact Rio Audio Customer Support at (254) 299-2759 and we will issue a Return Merchandize Authorization (RMA) letter to you with further instructions. We will need the following information to complete the RMA: · Your complete name: · Your complete shipping address: · Your telephone number: · Your email address: · Model of Rio: · Serial Number of Player: · Part number of player: · Date of Purchase: · Place of Purchase: · Operating System: · Transfer software you are using: · Description of issue and what you?ve already tried: " Good luck!

Rio pearl directory corrupted

first, and this is always good: If available, firmware for the Rio Carbon can be downloaded online. Second, this might be the problem: The Rio Carbon communicates with your computer differently in MTP mode than it does in MSC mode. When in MTP mode, the Rio Carbon cannot display hidden files in folders, cannot allow transfers to the root Rio Carbon directory, and cannot allow the creation of new folders. (Folders can be transferred to the Rio Carbon using drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste methods.) To use traditional folder options, change the Transfer Mode settings to put the Rio Carbon in MSC mode. Last, "..Removing the Rio Carbon from a USB connection before Idle is displayed on the screen may result in a corrupting the player's file system. If for any reason you suspect that your Rio player's file system has been corrupted, reformatting the player will restore the file system to its original state..."
