I lose PC's internet connection when faxing with MX860 on network

We have a network of 4 PCs at work and the printer (canon MX860) all are hard wired. The PCs are running Windows XP. Every thing works fine until we either send or receive a fax. once that happens our computers lose the internet connection at the router (the little green indicator light for internet goes out). Sometimes with time it will just come back, but often we have to turn the router off and back on to get the internet back. We just added the 4th computer and had to upgrade our router to one with more ports so I'm sure it is not the router because we were having this problem before we got the new one.

Yeah look like you have dsl and in that case you need a filter to go on that line so it will filter out you dsl connection so the data will pass threw.

I lose PC's internet connection when faxing with M - e125b03.jpg
I has two plugs one for you dsl modem and one for you fax or voice...

if you have one of these make sure there on all lines even the fax line, if you do have one then it needs to be changed out as it is bad.

Testimonial: "Thank you! I didn't even think about that but it makes perfect sense. one more question though where exactly does the filter go? Between the printer and the wall, the wall and the router or the router and the source? Thanks again."

I am trying to send a fax from my PC using a Canon MX860. I am using cable internet. Do I need to have my printer/fax plugged in directly to my phone line or just into my computer?

Typically a fax machine will use the phone line to communicate with other fax machines. There is a port on the back that you can plug a phone line into. I think it is the one below the port that looks like a phone handset.

I receive an error message on my PC that my Canon MX860 All-in-One printer is not responding. I feel there is some form of network communication issue preventing any printing from any PC (there are 4) in...

Just a couple of questions for you and perhaps this will help me troubleshoot your issue:
1. I am assuming this is a wireless issue. Did the MX860 show up on your network? Does it now?
2. Were there any error messages associated with the installation of the printer package?
3. What kind of wireless router do you have?
Let me know the above answers and we can continue troubleshooting your issue.

My Canon MX860 always defaults to FAX not PRINT

Use your operating system to choose the printer rather than the driver.
For Windows XP, go Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. Right click on the printer and choose Set as Default Printer.
