Panasonic lumix dmc-fx01 won't focus

Camera will turn on, lens extends, but then it puts itself into telephoto mode and will not focus or allow picture to be taken. Camera was dropped.

I took a picture, then when I went to preview mode, it just froze. Now, everytime I turn the camera on, at normal picture mode, it automatically zooms in, and doenst allow any pictures to be taken. On SCN mode, the screen keeps showing all scene modes non-stop. What would be wrong with this cam?

it seems like the toggle is stuck on the zoom in position!  what to do?

Yes, I have the same problem too!

I turn on the cam, it goes to max zoom automaticaly and freezes for any other tasks. It also winds through unstopably all the shooting modes as in a preview, but will not respond to anything I try to do.

Does anybody out there has a solution?

    Thanks

    Tom

Lens extends even when it is turned off. When it is turned on, picture can not be taken. Error message appears that says "Shut off camera, then try again." When I do so, the problem persists. Any suggestions?

See the post for the same camera: "Buttons stopped working": there is a small 2 position switch connected to the zoom button. In my camera the zoom switch was stuck in one of the extreme positions. You have to put it back in the middle an re-assemble.

Sounds as if it has either received a knock, or foreign matter (grit etc) has got into the lens mechanism.

If the dark spot is not focused, it could be on the sensor. Otherwise, check the lens for any dust particles. If you can't find any dust, take the camera to an authorized service center.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 Less than 1 year old

same problem with ours, only 7 months old. We returned to the seller under warranty, and they fixed the problem FOC. They stated "lens adjustment" on the repair invoice.
I think these machines are not as sturdy as we are led to believe, and the slightest knock or bump sends them a bit squew wiffy!

The scene mode is in one loop!!!!!

I had this exact problem. The FX01 thought I was holding down the 'up' button! I sent it back under warranty and they replaced the board. However that doesn't mean it was unfixable; it's just cheaper for them to replace boards than test them and fix them. IMO.
