Problem connecting Sony Ericsson M600i cell phone to PC via USB

I installed the Sony Ericsson PC Suite that came with my phone and then connected to my PC via USB. I think that Windows initially recognised the phone, but the phone connection wizard in the SE PC Suite did not. So I rebooted and still no good. After that I uninstalled the PC Suite. When I reinstalled it, Windows no longer recognized my phone and shows the following message:

USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

Device Manager shows "Unknown Device".

Is it a problem with the uninstallation of SE PC Suite? Or has my phone somehow been corrupted as implied by the "malfunctioned" message from Windows?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

HI,

Here are few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Try plugging your phone via USb on any other compute or laptop in your home.See if you get the same problem. If you don't get the same problem i.e. the other laptop or computer recognises your phone then the problem is with the computer in which you first plugged in the phone. Some files might have got corrupted.you will need to so a system restore by going to START>PROGRAMS>ALL ACCESSORUIES>SYSYTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE.

Caution:Doing a system restore will delete all the existing files and restore the computer to the earlier time.So please do take a backup before doing that.

Now try connecting the phone and see if it recognizes it.If it doesn't then you will have to reinstall xp.

Finally even after reinstalling if your phone is not recognized then the problem is with the device return it to the manufacturer and get a another one if it is under warranty.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Can not connect sony W910i in 'phone mode' via USB cable

Please check if the OEM is installed properly, You would get a Blue screen error only when your computer RAM has some problems and if the Drivers are corrupted for the used application. So i would suggest you to reinstall this Sony ericsson PC suite.

hello there!

By using your phone as a modem, you can get Internet access via your PC. Before you can use your phone as a modem, your service provider must enable your data line. Once the data line is enabled, you must set up your PC.

You can connect your phone to your laptop via USB cable or bluetooth. then open the PC suite for sure there will be set up for this.

You will need the PC suite to do this.

Set up the Data account in the Sony Ericsson K750i:

  • Go to Menu
  • Select Connectivity > press Yes
  • Select Data Communication > press Yes
  • Select Data Accounts > press Yes
  • Select Add Account > press Yes
  • Select GPRS Data > press Yes
  • Enter Name as :mnet
    • APN : mnet
    • Give User name as: mnet
    • Give Password as: mnet
  • Select Save > press Yes
  • Connect your Sony Ericsson K750i with cable.
  • If you are using the USB cable or DSS-20, then

    • Double click Phone Connection link
    • Uncheck the USB prot.
  • Click Start > Programs
  • Select Sony Ericsson > Mobile networking wizard
  • Select Create new connection > GPRS
  • Select Install Modem > Add (install the modem on the same port of the USB)
  • Select Access point name as :
  • For Primary and Secondary DNS: leave blank

    • Give User name as:
    • Give Password as:
  • To confirm select Done
  • Select Connect > Dial
With the Sony Ericsson PC Suite software installed on your PC, you'll be able to synchronise your phone contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, notes, emails and bookmarks between your phone and your PC at any time. You can synchronise using USB cable, Bluetooth™ or Infrared (IR), depending on phone model.

To be able to use Sony Ericsson PC Suite with your PC, there are some requirements on hard disk space and Windows version that must be met. Please see Software downloads on this site to download and for details on the requirements for your phone.
