You need phillips brand audio discs only they will work with that machine
This is not correct. I used a variety of black cd-audio media (including generic supermarket tpes) with every success. I doubt that the actual brand of blank disc has any relevance here.
However, I did come across this when looking for information on how to remedy my own 'record' drive which is now refusing to recognise ANY disc, including black cd-audio, cd-rw-audio, commerciall-made discs, AND discs that I actually made on the machine itself! The right-hand, play-only, drive, is working fine. I have had the machine almost ten years.
