Ink light flashing

My Canon ip4200 has compatible ink and I transferred the chips and it has worked previous but now the yellow flashing light won't go off - I have pressed it but it just keeps coming up - the message I am getting is Ink tank errors have occured - open the thing and replace the cartridges that have no lights on - even i f I press the yellow flashing light for 5 seconds it just keeps doing it and it just keeps getting the same message. I have done this before and did get those override messages previously but now all I get is this message - do you think the cartridge I just replaced might not have the chip on right?

Yeah, I have the same Problem. It says..."Ink tank errors have occured. Open the printer's cover and replace the ink tanks on which ink lamps are off."

The chips are in the correct place!

Funny thing though...I was replacing both black cartridges when this happened.

First the small black, no problems...then the large one....then guess what!!...!!

Installed new ink on ip4200. Black will not print on test page "horizontal box", other colors print. Any suggestion on why the black won't print? Thanks.

The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.
  1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

  2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (A), it is properly removed.

  3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (B), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (A).

  4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

The middle light keeps flashing 7 times then stops then repeats. the other button to change the paper type. i dont think its a ink issue possibly a paper one.

This mean multiple ink tanks of the same color installed or Ink tank in a wrong position.Check your ink tanks. This ink tanks has a memory chip.Sometimes this chip fails.
If the green light blinks with a orange 7 times this mean the waste ink tank is full.Follow this:
1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.

Replaced two ink tanks in my pixma but the lights will not flash

You cant realy do anything, i had the same problem whit my IP5000.
I tryed everything but nothing helped, after speaking whit canon here in sweden they told me to let it be, after next tank instalation it will disappear and you printer will be as usal again. Canon told that the problem is on the chip on the tank. When the printer tell you that the tank is empty or not right just press the blinking yellow button on the printer and hold it for at least 5 seconds.

Good luck

Pixma 4200 compatible ink cartridge problem help

The ink detection is a critical function of the printer.

Ink actually acts as a lubricant for the heads, and running (Printing) without ink is equavalent to driving a car without oil.

I.E. It will seize eventually....

Hopefully you didn't print much without the ink, and your heads are still in good shape...

Here is a chip reset procedure....

With the original chip now attached to the compatible cartridge (you may need double sided tape to get the chip to stick well to the cartridge), and with the cartridge now in the printer, Press and hold the Reset/OK Button for 5 seconds to reset the chips.
  1. The "Ink Low" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 1 below)
  2. Continue to print until the "ink has run out" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 2 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print.
  3. The "Ink Low" dialog box may reappear, if so repeat the first 2 steps
  4. Then the "once empty" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 3 Below) Click "Yes" to continue to print
  5. The "Not Liable" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 4 below). Click "Yes" to continue to print
  6. Continue to print until the "remaining level of ink" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 5 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print
  7. Another dialog box will pop up with the "press and hold the Resume" or "press and hold the Paper Feed" button (similar to photo 6). Press and hold the "STOP/RESET" button (for Canon MP Series) or "PAPER FEED" button (for Canon IP Series) for 5 seconds. DO NOT Click "Back" or "Cancel Printing"
  8. The "Ink Monitor" dialog box will appear and the printer will continue to print. (similar to photo 7) In the event that that the "press and hold the Resume " dialog box pops up again, Press and hold the Paper Feed Button or Stop/Reset Button for 5 seconds

Compatable tanks for my pixma iP4200

Guys...try to save a few bucks on crappy cartridges...

The chips are not read by lasers. That was a load. There are contacts in the carriage assembly for thses chips.

First, if you put a chip that says empty onto a new cartridge, what do you get? A new cartridge that still says empty. The chip has to be reset, if it can be. Some internet sites sell "Kits" for resetting the chips.

If the reset doesn't work, and just buggers up the chip, you'll get results much like what you are describing.

Also, if the chip is damaged in some way during transfer or resetting, you'll also get mixed results much like what you are describing.

You get what you pay for. If you want to use crap cartridges or crap ink, buy a crap generic machine. If you're buying a decent machine like a Canon, spend the extra couple of bucks for the OEM ink, it's worth it.
