if there's no flashing red light on lens?.. the ribbon connector of lens is not properly connect, or change it if you notice that it has lines cracked. the bad performance of the disk spinning motor is also causing why was your unit displaying "no disc" error.
check and see if the dvd player needs to be cleaned. you can pick up contaminates from other dvd's or cd's get yourself a dvd disk cleaner and run it thru seveveral times . and try to play your money then.
Hello The display may not be U81. It may be C31. There are only three Self Diagnosis Dispay will be there, They are [C13, C31 & E XX]. If it is C31, DVD/CD inserted is not correct. Reinsert it correctly. If the same display comes again, open it and check whether the inserted disc spins or not. If the inserted disc does not spins; due to some other trouble, usually with the faut to sled motor; this display will be there. Check it. OK.
If a FORMAT ERROR message is displayed,
then the inserted disc is not formatted or it is recorded in a
different format not useable by the camcorder. If using a DVD-RW or
DVD+RW, format the disc prior to use. Otherwise, use a different disc.

i hope this answers and solves your problems.
If the disc loads up and you can hear it spin, then you get the error, more than likely the optical lens has been damaged. This will have to be repaired by a local shop if its worth the cost. if the part is available it would probably run anywhere from 130-165 to repair
hello i have had the same problem this maybe because of the region that your dvd is made to play.different dvd players play different.region dvd the regions should be on the dvd and the dvd cover.
the problem is with your dvd players optical pic up .remoove the cover and clean the optical eye cairfully with cotton bud.(remember this is eye treet it very smoothly).then try again or use head cleaning cd.after that it will work .otherwise you have to change the optical lense to check wether it is problem with circuit or lence.
can i fixed that?
