I have the Acer 5580. It does not seem to be accepting electricity. When the laptop is plugged in, the charge light does not light up. I cannot start it with the battery in or out. The AC port had been wiggly for a while now. I have tried lots of wiggleing and still I cannot get the charge light to alight. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

There are no Windows 7 drivers for this laptop according to the Acer website. That being said, there's also the chance that it could be 3 different camera's, so choosing the correct driver might be difficult without the specifications for your exact notebook. Have you contacted Acer support at all?
Go to this url, pick the type of webcam you have. (http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5580.html).Put this URL in the search bar of your browser.PICK THE TYPE OF WEBCAM AND THERE IS WHERE YOUR DRIVERS ARE.
It is unlikely that not using the surge suppressor did anything. Have you tried removing the battery and using ONLY the power supply? If this works, it is usually a sign that your battery is dead and needs to be replaced
