Hi, I have 2 ViewSonic VA902b monitors that have the same problem. When you turn them on the video on the screen will flash on for a moment. Could It be the backlight? The were only manfactured in Mar 06 so they may still be in warranty. What do you think? Give me the technical explaination, I used to repair consumer electronics. Thanks, Bob

This is a common problem with LCD monitors after a few years of use. The capacitors in the power supply board start to fail and this prevents the monitor from starting up correctly. Sometimes you get a picture and then it goes black. On some units you can keep pressing the power button and after several power up cycles the monitor will work until you turn if off. These symptoms are all common with capacitor failure. The monitors are well out of warranty now so Viewsonic will not cover the repair cost. But the repair is very easy to do yourself. You just have to replace the 6 power filter capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link to additional information on this repair.

I hope this helps, I have repaired over 30 of this model with the same issue.

Hi...Guys,

Yeah...you're right! your backlight inverter are burnt out. Most likely due to over heating capacitors.
Good lucks!

I had the same problem and called Viewsonic (www.viewsonic.com). Bought mine in July '06 and to my surprise it's still under warranty. The warranty goes for 3 years so even though shipping is my cost, they'll fix or replace it with a same/similar model.

I had a chat session with Viewsonic and they agreed to fix all 4 of mine under warranty. No real hesitation on their part - maybe it's a known problem.

Monitor standby won't stay on /pioneer 424mv

What is the source of the TV signal? I know many monitors have a "power-saving mode" that returns the unit to standby if there is no signal coming in.

Check that the signal cables are working (try swapping cables). Make sure the source is on before turning on the TV. Press the Input button to select a different source. Make sure that the source signal is not refreshing (or synching) at a rate that is incompatible with the TV. (If your source is a PC that was previously connected to a CRT monitor, the refresh rate should be reset to 60 Hz before connecting the computer the the Pioneer 424MV.)

I hope this helps.

Monitor come on for a few seconds then goes black, green signal light stay on green. can you help

the monitor may be losing the back lite. take a flash light or bright light and shine it at the screen after it goes black. can you see a faint picture? if so the back lite has failed. usually the cost of replacement exceeds the cost of a new monitor but there are a couple of web sites that detail the replacement of the "ccfl" cold cathode flouresecent light.

Green lite comes on for about 2 to 3 seconds then shuts down red lite pulses

If the back was off the board on the left is your Ysus board. It will have a cable plugged into the right side of the board from the signal board. Unplug the the Ysus board. If it stays on without a picture change both Y and Z sustain boards. If this helps let me know.
