No you do not. You have a 220 system. What you do to hook it up is. In the box in the wall you should have 3 wires. 2 black and one white. Then on the cooktop you have the 3 wires 1 black, 1 red, and 1 white. You take the black from the cooktop to the black in the wall box. Take the red to the other black in the wall box. then take the whites and put them together. Now if you have a green or bare wire that is the ground. Just hook that to the wall box.

Wire from circuit breaker is Black/White/Bare(ground). From Jenn Air is Black/White/RED/Green (ground). How do I wire? Jenn Air Black to Black, Jenn Air Red and White to White? Grounds (Jenn Air Green to...

depending on your local electrical code:and I see that the unit is 240 Volts A.C., then RED=Power/Black=POWER(L1 & L2)/WHITE="N"Neutral/and GREEN=SAFETY GROUND,on the new unit, then use from the wall power BLACK = L1 and White= L2. then on the unit RED=L1 and BLACK=L2(either way you hook these 2 up there isn't a polarity issue on these 2 wires) on the units hook-up/then use the BARE supply wire as neutral and tie BOTH WHITE and GREEN from the unit together to this BARE wire

I took out an old cooktop which only has the black, white and ground wires. The jennair cooktop with 5 electric elements has black, red, white and ground. how do i connect these together.

sounds like the old one is 110 volts , and the new one is 220 volts. incompatable, as the 220 ones would work, but at half power if you didnt use the red wire. might work fine. omit the red wire and wee what happens

Whirlpool Electric Cooktop Wiring

sound like you have a three wire setup on you house most commonly the black wire is the L1 wire or one of the hot wires and the red is the L2 wire and is also one of the hot wire in this instance your white wire would be your neutral/ground wire this would connect to the copper wire on your cook top depending on the model it would have a red wire a black wire and the copper wire but some may also have a white wire also if this is the case on a three wire setup you would attach the copper and white wires together also if needed you can goto the maufactures website and download an instalation guide.

Wiring for a jenn air cooktop jec8536adb

Hi, I'm sure by now you probably have this fixed. Anyway, It is important that you know some information, like what the voltage is of the black and white wires coming in. The electrical codes in most places call for the 3rd wire which would be a neutral. If the old wiring has a metal conduit it is possible that it is being used as a ground and it may have been assumed that if the ground and neutral wires in the distribution panel were connected to the same bus that it wouldn't matter. Not the safest way to go but it will still work if you have no other wires. The incoming would probably be each a 110vac leg which the black would connect to black and the red from the cooktop would connect to the white of the incoming and the white of the cooktop would be sealed off. If you need additional help please let us know. Good Luck!

We have a Jenn air jed8430. It was installed but never supplied power to it or tested. We want to make sure the wires are right before powering it up. Black is with Black. Red is with Black with Red...

I just looked, and there is not a wiring diagram available on the web for this unit.

I am concerned about the black with red stripe to red.

Check to see if there is a wiring diagram somewhere on the unit (there wasn't one in the installation instruction or manual for this unit.). I believe the red wire on the house side goes to the black/black wire on the cooktop side (so I believe you are correct on your concern.).

House side green should be to the coiled silver cooktop side silver wire.

But the wiring diagram will confirm these things.

I think the black/red stripe is for the blower.
