Is this blue tinge on the left side of the screen a lamp problem or the projector itself. the lamp for this Panasonic PT-AE700E was replaced only about a dozen hours ago. what is an optical block, and does it have anything to do with the problem

Your problem is the optical block failing. This is very common with the AE700s. It actually happened to me once before and I had it fixed. After having it replaced, it was recommended I run my fan on high mode, run the lamp on low mode and change the back lit color to black from blue to help thwart the issue. The optical block fails due to heat stress from the projector. Doing the things above lower the heat and extend the life of the block. I have a perfeclty good optical block if you would be interested as buying them new are extrememly expensive.

Where can I source a blue optical block for the AE700? I am in need of one but can't seem to find a place to buy them.

It's not just the blue part, you actually need to replace the entire optical block which has the blue part attached to it. It's a fairly easy replacement. I have a 100% working optical block if you are interested as replacing them from panasonic makes no sense as they cost $600. Email me at [email protected] if you would be interested.

PT-AE700E projector appears to have gone kaput - not lighting up.

Because of high voltages and heat, there are many safety circuits inside these units. If you have a spare lamp, try replacing the lamp. Initial checks are made before the lamp is fired and sometimes a defective lamp can cause this. Also, can you descruibe what you mean by "noisier than usual"? Is the fan making more noise? Something elase making a noise?

Thanks,
Dan

How far to mount projector from screen, screen is a lp morgan rondo

It depends on a lot of factors -- how bright the area is going to be, the size of your screen, etc -- but you'll be roughly 9 to 14 feet from the screen for most settings.

I'm basing this on numbers for a PT-AE700U projector, as I wasn't able to find the AE700E.

Take a look at the ProjectorCentral.com projection calculator if you want to get precise about the distance for your environment.

But be sure to rate my fix as "Helpful" before you click that link! :)
