If you have spark and compression, the only thing left is fuel.

Check that fuel is being deluvered to the carb (remove fuel line to carb and make provision to catch ejected fuel. Crank engine. Fuel should be pumped from the tank and out the open line at a good rate.

If this checks out (or there is no pump fitted, but there is fuel issuing from the pipe), check the electrical connector on the bottom of the carb. There should be battery voltage on this conection for the engine to run - if not - that's the problem.

If that checks out, the cut-off solenoid (fed by the connection you just checked) is suspect.

Had the same problem. Removed carb, carefully, noting where everything goes and taking some pics, completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. Reassembled and worked like a champ. Reason for this? Gas goes bad and gunks up the carb. Good luck

Like the others have mentioned...that leaves a fuel issue. Try pouring a little gas down the carb (take air filter out first) to see if it will pick it up. Depending on how old the gas is in the tank...you may have to drain the tank and clean the carburetor. I recommend using a form of stabilizer in the gas when storing the machine during the off-season. Do no use dry-gas in any of these engines as it will do more harm than good. www.nnyparts.com

My craftsman 42in rider quits after about 30 to 45 minutes. The carb solenoid is good and the gas cap is venting ok. I have to wait about 20 to 30 minutes before it will start again. What should I check...

try the coil, does it get fire to the sparkplug after it quits and what color is the spark? blue spark is good, red is weak fire, and not enough to fire the engine up.
