When a DVD disc is created, it is encoded with a "Region number." The disc will only play on DVD players with the same Region number - for instance, a Region 3 disc won't play on a Region 1 player.
Region 1: U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada
Region 2: Japan, Western Europe, Middle East, South Africa
Region 3: South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast and East Asia Region 4: New Zealand, Australia, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central/
South America
Region 5: Russia and the former Soviet Union, Africa, Indian
subcontinent, North Korea Region 6: China
The only way to get around the region codes, is to rip a DVD to your computer and remove the region code. Then burn the DVD to a DVD R. There are programs around on the net, but I'm not sure it is legal in all countries.
Google for the programs.
A DVD player sometimes allows you to change the region code once. But it not even would allow you to switch back after you changed it once.

Australia is DVD-region 4:

IF the unit is SECOND HAND ???... it is possible you may not have the correct MAP SET installed ... OR you may have to CHANGE [in MENU] to US MAPS ...
My TOMTOM has a option to choose which COUNTRY maps I wish to use as I have Australia AND all of South-East Asia mapsets loaded separately on my GPS ...

To change your Region Code click Start- Computer - right click DVD Drive - Properties - Hardware Tab - Click on the DVD Drive on the list of hardware then click on Properties button - click on DVD Region Tab - choose your country then click ok button - click apply button then ok on the previous window - restart computer.

Note: Region Codes can only be change up to 5 times.

This may be a problem with your ps3 as they are region free. mine is from china and plays all british games fine and blu ray movies email sony @ [email protected]

And just press 9 to chose REGION FREE

try to buy and play original dvd movies. when it play, it is how you burn your dvd, use some software which will automatically create dvd movies so you can play to your DVD player.. If not, try to clean DVD lens using lens cleaner. usually used DVDr will not play to DVD player.. try also to use new blank DVD

I have a feeling this might be a region issue. If your DVD is the correct region for your country (check it against this list)
1: United States, United States Territories, Caribbean, and Canada
2: Europe (including British and French territories), Japan, South Africa, and the Middle East
3: Southeast Asia
4: Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand
5: Russia/Eastern Europe, Central and South Asia, and Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho)
6: China
(7: unused)
8: airlines/cruise ships

then your DVD-player might not be set up properly or may be faulty. Have a look at the settings and make sure the correct region code is set up in your player. If you find a "0" as the region code it means your player can play all regions.
