This could easily be a power problem. You can check for overheating, but I would recommend not attempting to turn on the computer again, until you test the power supply.

eMachines (and gateway) have a long history of using Bestec Power Supplies (recognizable for their bright yellow warning label). These are highly defective and can result in the frying of your motherboard and/or processor.

I would recommend checking what kind of power supply you have. If it is a Bestec, it is most likely defective (or will become defective soon). Based solely on that, I would replace it. In addition, it may have already damaged your processor (causing it to get too hot easily) or your motherboard. Its rough, but better you fix it now, as opposed to replacing the motherboard or processor, just to have the power supply fry the new one (the Bestec PSUs still look like they function when they have failed, but send completely unreliable volts to your board).

If you need assistance finding new parts, I can direct you to cost effective alternatives.

Hello, my emachines e4259 shutts down after boot up., i tried to install another version of vista but itts still stutting down in install program. what can it be?

If it is physically shutting off (like someone yanked the power cord) than it is a power supply

If the computers screen goes black, but the computer still runs, it could be RAM or a motherboard failure

My E4252 shuts down on boot-up> I have tried changing the psu to no avail. If the motherboard is cooked where can i get another?

It is not the motherboard that is cooked it is the processor overheating to correct this problem you need to do the following

Remove the Heatsink from the CPU and re apply heatsink compound to both the CPU and the heatsink then replace the heatsink onto the CPU. the reason for the overheating and shutdown is that the connection between the heatsink and the CPU has become "Aged" and no longer transfers the heat like it should

Laptop wont boot up

Stay away from Emachines in the future. Pay another $100 and get a real computer.
1. check that nothing is in the CD-Rom drive and restart the computer.
2.Shut down the computer. Unplug the AC power. Remove the battery pack. Wait 2 minutes or until machine cools.
try powering on comp on battery alone, then try with AC power alone.

Computer crashed. Computer specialist restored drive. now cannot boot windows. Used restore disk. Did not work. computer boots dos screen then shuts down. boots again then shuts down.

Sounds like a Windows issue. Depending on how valuable it is to you to get your data off the drive, I would suggest buying a new hard drive (they are fairly cheap these days), installing Windows on that. Word of advice: Remove your old drive when doing the Windows install, so as not to accidentally select the hard drive your data is on. Once you have Windows installed, shut down your computer, remove the power cord, and install your old drive on a separate IDE channel or SATA connection. If your PC still tries to boot to the old drive, change the boot order in your PC's BIOS.

RAM ON emachines E4252?

Yes....
Make sure that the power is off, and uplug the unit from the back. Then install the memory and plug it back in then power it back up. The computer will see the new memory and so will Vista.

Emachines wont boot

Bad capacitor(s) on the motherboard can cause this problem, corrupted BIOS maybe... try flashing BIOS.
Probably the CPU if your not getting any error code beeps on startup.. NO Processor for the BIOS instructions thus no Beeps !
