It sounds like your video adapter (probably on the motherboard) is failing, and you'll need to get another video adapter you can plug into one of the slots.
Well id suggest take it to a professional, 3 problems i can think of are that the monitor is faulty, contrast is turned right down (alot of people dont think to turn it up) or it requires a new graphics card. but before playing around with it, take it to a professional just in case.
