Can not change TV channel on DVD Recorder.

Trying to help someone with Sony RDR-VX530. We are unable to get it to change TV channels on the built in tuner. This is true from both the remote and by pressing the + - buttons on the front panel. It did work until about a week ago. Remote appears to work, but put in fresh batteries anyway with no change. Troubleshooting section in manual notes two causes: a recording timer affecting channel selection and a disabled channel. Have cleared all timers (there was only one), and using setup have auto programed channels and even added channels manually. Still cannot change channels. Interestingly, when manually adding channels, whatever channel I am on when exiting becomes the channel the tuner is "stuck" on after exiting setup.

Check video input setting to DVD recorder...should be set to "External" or "Line". This should activate the video input jacks on the rear of the RDR-VX530 and allow it to "see" your Sony handycam.

CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO RECORD OFF AN 'AV' SETTING

The method is the same as for TV channels; select the input (i.e. view the desired channel), then press the record button. AV1 and AV2 usually are at the end of the channel list, and can be found by pressing the channel UP or DOWN buttons.
