Question about Samsung HLR5667W 56" Rear Projection HDTV

Screen on my HL-R5667W DLP is fading from the left

My late 2005 HL-R5667W DLP is fading from the left side - top to bottom - about 1.5 inches. You can still see what is behind it but it is a strong shadow. What could be the problem?

DLP's has not convergence IC's. Your problem is in the light tunnel unit.

Shadow top to bottom of screen on left side about 2" wide...

This can be the sync wheel assy, failure in the drive circuit for the display chip, or an illumination fault. You will have to give the set out for service.

Dark band on left side, Samsung HL-R5668W

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)

DLP HL-R5067W

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.

Don't recommend replacing the light tunnel if you never had any experience with DLP optical systems. you need to pay careful attention to the way you remove any screws or you will be forced disassembling the engine multiple time to get the alignment correctly.
