I'm riding the bike for a few hours. 3 previous stops with no problems. I ake a gas stop, starts right up. 10 miles later I stop to make sure I'm going in the right direction. Turn key, all the lights come on as they should. I press the starter, a low click and it's dead. Completely dead. No lights. I get jumped, it's starts but any hint of gas it runs rough and misses. With booster battery left on it runs fine and can be throttled up.. Took battery to get tested and cell isn't dead. Battery is a gel cell less than a month old. I'm thinking either voltage regulator or generator. What do you think

Why won't my 2002 R1 start

Measure the battery voltage with the engine running. It should show a charge, 13+ volts on the battery. If not fault find the charging system.

On the road, won't start.

40 YEARS later???

If you mean every 40 miles you have to open gas cap to restart, the gas tank vent is clogged, not allowing air into the gas tank to replace the fuel leaving, creating a vapor lock.

Find the tank venting system, and clear.

I recently bought a 2004 klx 400 sr dual sport. the bike starts up with no problems. After i ride it for a few minute the bike starts to act like it is running out of gas then stalls. it will turn...

Hello
Your running out of gas.
the fuel filter needs replaced.
your fuel filter is clogged and isn't letting a full flow of gasoline through.
change your fuel filter.

Also check to make sure your gas tank vent isn't clogged.
a clogged gas tank vent with pull a vacuum and try to **** your tank in, but it can't, so your fuel flow stops if it can't breathe.

That should take care of your problem.
have a great weekend

2008 Yamaha YP400 starting problem.....tonight after a 10 mile ride stopped to pick up something and returned and the scooter failed to start..... Symptoms scooter would turn over but failed to fire.......

Hello. I also had a similar problem just this night after I made a journey. My bike just stopped while it was in motion and it's refusing to start up again. The lighting system works when I turn the key ON but the bike wont start. The starter makes a funny sound then it stops. What could be the problem and I'll be glad if I get a solution...thanks

I have a 2007 yzf600 with 200 miles on it, from day one it was hard to start, i took it to the dealer and was advised that the e85 in the gas clog up the jets and that is why it does not start, $700 later...

DickCanFixIt is right if the bike service was done recently. If done a year ago the dealer is pretty much off the hook. $700 is ridiculous for what they did. Just get a spray can of starting fluid and give a shot into the air cleaner. Add some fuel injector cleaner into the gas and ride through a few tanks of premium gas. After awhile you won't need the starter fluid. By the way, if you only ride the bike 100 miles a year you may want to sell it. As you have seen, they can be a money pit under some circumstances.

Battery drained while riding

Sounds like you either have corroded wires going to your battery or your alternator is not properly charging the battery. Get the bike to an autozone and ask them to put their tester on it.
