LG Flatron W2234S 22 purple tint problem

I have an LG Flatron W2234S 22" LCD monitor.

When I first turn on my monitor, the picture is fine. However, as it warms up to normal operating temperature, the screen will begin to flicker between normal and a purple "tint" or "haze" (as if there is not enough green to balance with the red and blue). For example, the tint will make gray colors look purple and yellow colors look red. The tint shows up against darker colors more than lighter colors.

Here is a picture of the monitor displaying a color test pattern (notice the drop in green):

Eventually, the flickering between normal and purple tint gets worse, until purple haze mode takes over and it won't flicker back to normal, unless I turn off the monitor and let it cool off for several hours.

Yes. In fact, I tried a second VGA cable just to make sure that wasn't an issue. The problem continued witht he second VGA cable.

I also tried using a second monitor to ensure that it wasn't a problem with the video card itself. The other monitor worked fine with either VGA cables.

I believe this narrows the problem down to the monitor itself.

Did you check the VGA cable plugs at both ends?

  • Anonymous May 12, 2010

Yes. I checked to make sure both VGA cables, and associated plugs, worked correctly. I even hooked up a different monitor, using each of the two cables, to ensure that the problem was with the monitor and not the cables or the video card. The different monitor worked fine, with no tint, and no problems.

Well, I checked the capacitors, and none of the capacitors had bulging or broken caps.

Unfortunately, in getting to the circuit boards to check the capacitors, I destroyed one of the plugs, so I guess this ends this problem...Thank you for your help!

Your LCD monitor has bad ccfl lamps or inverter circut..

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

this really looks like a failing ccfl lamps or inverter circuit, maybe also power supply section...as budmrtn suggested, some capacitors are bulging due to overheat.. best is to bring the unit to a qualified monitor repair center...

Hi,
When it does off picture after sometime and then back again. It's due to the 'power transistors' in the VGA card part overheating after becoming a bit old, or the one's in the panel. It's not really economic to buy a replacement panel at 70% of a new LCD. Can buy a replacement VGA card for 30%. The parts number are Manufacturer Part Number EBU59489401 Board Numbers 791501300700R For a replacement card
if no warrenty, $50
search google/ebay.
Else the W2234s is very easy to dissassemble from it's cases. And put a house fan at the back @ to provide the extra cooling to keep it going, if it's not to bad. Keep fingers to the sides of the boards else !

I had flickering, then it went black. little blue led would then blink. solution was alittle barbaric but did the job. a swift slap to the back of the monitor and disable screen saver/standby. havent had a problem in 30 days so far.

note: I sent this unit to LG 3 times for warrenty repair. Issue was never resolved and warenty expired.

Inspect the caps in the Logic/LCD driver board and in the power supply/inverter board, look for caps with bulging tops. See example here:

Lg w2234s-bn Monitor Cycling randomly through Light View Modes/Power Button turning It's self on and off.

On and off cycleing could be caused by a bad power supply or a low battery on your remote. Check them both out. Good luck.

I have a LG FLatron Wide monitor worked for 3 years but now is got this pink tint that I can not remove???

A pink tint is an indication that the CCFL lamp/s is about to fail. The CCFL lamp/s provide the back light.

Try changing the Resolution for the lowest one, if it works it will see the letters and everything very big. I have same trouble, specially since I change the original Vista Starter for the new Windows 7, I have not found a free controler that helps me and I have seen many people with same the problem. Sorry for my english.

Doese not want 2 go on !!

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed LG and other monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

No picture lg flatron w2234s blinking blue light

Hi My screen developed exactly the same problem. It appears to be a hardwear problem associated with the screen it's self. continuity test is ok on the lead so I took it back to the shop under warranty and hey presto, the replacement works. I don't know what the problem is but there are a number of other folks on another thread with the same problem and their entries are dated May 09 too.  Dave
