We can hear the fan running and then the compressor, but little to not water produced; sometimes we can hear it click on and then off; the fan seems to be running a lot...

You may have the humidity level set to high. Usually anything above 50%, will show little results, unless your house is flooded.. Turn the humidity setting to the lowest level that your humidifier has
and give that a try.

The fan runs a lot, because it's designed to almost constantly move the air around. That way, if the humidity level rises above the setting on the dehumidifier, it can sense it and the compressor will turn ON.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I just bought a Danby Dehumidifier model: DDR6009REE The fan runs constantly even when the humidity setting is reached and the compressor is off. has anyone patched the power for the fan by putting...

All new generation dehumidifiers are designed to have the fans run all the time and the compressor comes on when the relitive humidity rises above the setting that you have chosen. I spoke with the company and asked them why this is so, and they told me that it is more energy efficient to have the machine on all the time so that when the compressor kicks in there is a small draw on electricity.
Apparently when the old dehumidifiers came on it was the compressor that turned on immediately, and the fan, and this caused a very high current draw. The new design has the fan on all the time and this helps to circulate the air evenly around the area being dehumidified - thus more efficient overall coverage.
I understood their explanation, but still do not like this new method of operation.

The biggest reason is plugged filter...or te coil bhind the filter is plugged. Then you get into whether the compressor itself is running or not. Just because the fan is running does not mean the compressor is

DE 500P - Fan will not shut off

If you have the fan icon selected, it is supposed to run continuously. If you use the mode button (not the fan button) to change to relative humidity (the water drop icon), the fan should only run with the dehumidifier.
