The top cover just pulls off, then as you look down the center of the agitator, there is a round plastic cap that just pulls out. You may have to tug hard for either or both of these. Then there is just the center bolt that you take out and the entire top of the agitator will come off. Usually, the "dogs" in the agitator wear out and need to be replaced. Cheap and easy fix. Note: you may want to get a new o-ring for your cap when you take this apart.

When you look down into the agitator, are there 4 white plastic points that look slightly melted or otherwise deformed? If so, using a small flat head screw and a small hammer, separate the white plastic from the surrounding translucent plastic. Once you've done that, it should easily pull apart.

Thank you soooo much. This is amazing! After I got in there, I found that it was the agitator dogs. I got the part from Whirlpool and it is now working like brand new! Again, thanks SO much for your help. Have a great day! Phyllis Anne
my wash machine agitator doesn't work and the machine is making a grinding noise and it doesn't spin.
I need to remove the top part of the agitator. The plastic part that grabs the interior part of the top section has worn the "grabber" and is broken. Where can I get this part and how do I get it off.
Thanks
how do i dissasemble the agitator now that i have it off? the bottom agitates fine, the top part will when empty but clothes weighing it down does not allow it to engage the dogs i guess, and it doesnt move back and forth, only one direction. worn dogs? ok but gotta get to them. thanks
I have removed the entire agitator assembly, but don't know how to remove the upper agitator from the lower portion.
I have the same exact problem, but answers to previous posting are no longer available. The expert store sold me new dogs but could not give advice how to disassemble. Placing agitator on the floor and pulling on top half doesn't work. It appears that the agitator on this commercial model (3357978 stamped on rear) has the ratchet assembly molded to the bottom half of the agitator. Is this true? How do I disassemble it without breaking it for future use?
The top part won't come off, and the video has been pulled off YouTube.
Where can I get info on this subject? I have the same problem as all these other posters.
same problem as everyone else
