MY AIR COND. IS 11 YRS OLD. I LIVE IN A DOUBLEWIDE HOME. THE PEOPLE THAT USED TO LIVE THERE NEVER HAD ANYTHING SERVICED. I HAD MY AC & HEAT PUMP SERVICED LAST YR. THE DRAIN PLUG INSIDE THE HOUSE HAD STOPPED UP & ROTTED MY FLOOR OUT. THE TECH SAID HE ALSO PUT FREON IN THE AC UNIT OUTSIDE. IT WORKED GREAT LAST SUMMER. THE HEAT WORKS GREAT BUT NOW THE AC WON'T COOL. THE OUTSIDE FAN USE TO HAVE HOT AIR COMING OUT OF IT WHEN IT WAS ON BUT NOW THE AIR IS COOL. CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
Sounds like you have a freon leak or your compressor has stopped working. You will probably need a service tech. If it is out of freon, don't let them just add more freon, make them find and repair the leak first. Good Luck.

Chances are the outside air temp sensor is defective. If it tells the computer outside air is below 32 degrees, you will get the warning and the air cond will not work because you don't need it. The sensor is usually in the area in front of the radiator.
You need to replace the fan capacitor. Your compressor is probably in thermal overload you can cure this by turning off the disconnect your ac voltage and taking a cool water hose and running over the top of the compressor for a while. Then turn your disconnect back on and listen and feel of the big copper line to see if it gets cold and also listen to see if the compressor kicks on.
If you have serviced the air conditioner such as cleaning the condenser coil, changing the filter, cleaning the evaporator coil and checking the refrigerant, you have done about all you can do. Most air conditioners can cool up to a 30 degree differential. If its 100 outside most units will be able to maintain approx. 70 degrees. It also depends on how tight the home construction is as well. Find out if you have ample enough insulation in the attic. This always makes a good difference. Also, is there insulation in the walls and how tight are the windows? In the middle of summer all depending what the weather is like, most air cond's are running at their peak. If you have not cleaned the outdoor condenser coil with a hose and a sprayer, you might do so. Turn the power to the unit off first. Also, have the refrigerant checked. Hope this helps.
Most of the time you would hook it up to Y on the furnace terminal strip. G would you to G which is Fan control....... But if you don't have a terminal on the furnace you can hook up the yellow wire from the thermostat Y directly to the condensor wires from the AC and the other wire from the condernsor to C common ternimal........ just make sure that the blower fan comes on with the AC or it won't cool.
if the fan motor is on but the compressor is not : if the compressor has correct voltage up to the terminals and is not operating, the compressor is bad, if ther is not power to the terminals, the start components may be the culprit, if there is no power to the start componenets then the controller is the issue.
The problem with window units and any service tech will tell you it cost more to repair than you can buy at Walmart or home depot. Unless you know someone who can charge it for you. Window units are a sore subject. A 200 dollar window unit might cost 200 dollars to charge system. SORRy rusty
ductless mini split units are a very good choice!
they are obviously quieter, more efficient and easier to maintain than window units. the downside is the initial expense of buying the unit, but this is paid back in eletric savings and peace of mind. Good luck Peyton
