If this happens while it is rotating, it is likely that the inside wiring has come loose from the connections and it makes temporary contact on rotation.

Ceiling fan

If you are controlling it with a pull chain switch the switch is likely bad. If from a wall switch the wall switch may be bad or a wiring problem has grounded the light circuit. You probably need a handy man who does ceiling fans

Got the lights from not blinking, now the ceiling fan won't work.

great question. this kind of issue is generally a problematic lamp controller. Lamp controllers get "used to" the current over time. So if you have a certain milli amperage flowing across the lamp controller for X years, eventually the lamp controller gets used to that current

The below article is very good at describing how a lamp controller works:

My Fanimation Islander FP320 stopped working, I've replaced the wall switch but fan won't spin and lights won't dim.

Check to make sure your fan is set on the high speed & the light is at the on possition with the pull chains.

Fan will not work

mcdevito75 here, Most likely yes, Check the fan by carefully turning it just a liitle by hand, also check for heat at the fan motor base, close to the ceiling. If heat or fan won"t start by hand, replace it.

Hunter ceiling fan remote problem

You will most likely need to replace the receiver with a new one from hunter. The receiver is actually a complete controller and contains the receiver, relays (which you hear clicking) and starting condensors(large capacitors which hold a charge that is "dumped" over the windings to get the motor to start from a dead stop). These appear to be pretty tightly assembled unless you have a desire to start replacing parts "off the board."

Ceiling fan with light and remote stopped working

It's most likely the receiver for the remote (transmitter) -- it's located under the cover at the top of the fan -- will need replacing.
