We had toner and error lights flashing in sync, replaced both toner and drum. Lights still flash, and when I press Continue it prints a page saying the printer has stopped because the drum has reached end of life. I pulled the drum and toner out of another printer and got the same error (the other printer is working fine). Any suggestions?
Yes I have the same problem. Bothe the toner and the drum have been changed but the error light and the low toner light will not stop blinking.Yes I have the same problem. Bothe the toner and the drum have been changed but the error light and the low toner light will not stop blinking.

First of all dirty rollers are not the cause of your problem as long as the printer is picking up the paper. Black marks or streaks on a DELL 1700 series printer are usually caused by the drum assembly which, in this model, is separate from the toner cartridge. There is no repair, you need to replace the drum assembly and perform the drum reset procedure. In very rare cases a buildup of residual toner on the fuser can cause marks as well, but I have never seen this on a DELL printer. To replace the drum: 1. After removing the paper tray, open the front of the printer. 2. Remove the toner cartridge by pushing down on the black release tab and pulling the toner up and out of the printer. 3. Pull the drum assembly straight out of the printer using the blue plastic handle. 4. Carefully unpack the new assembly and install in the printer. Be careful not to touch the photo-sensitive roller underneath. 5. Reinstall the toner cartridge, close the printer and insert the paper tray. 6. Perform the drum reset procedure exactly as follows:
power off and open front door hold down the continue button as you power on printer leaving front door open when error light comes on release continue and close front door. toner low, load paper, ready, and continue will all be lit. press cancel slowly 4 times or until just toner low lights up. each time you press cancel, the light sequence should change when just toner low is lit, press and hold continue button until lights cycle up and down in sequence. release continue.. toner low will be lit again turn printer off, wait 10 secs or so and then back on press continue button to print off settings page and check under cartridge information, photoconductor value is 0K (zero)
The drum has come to the end of its life. You should replace the drum assembly and reset the drum counter. Here is the procedure:
power off and open front door
hold down the continue button as you power on printer leaving front door open
when error light comes on release continue and close front door.
toner low, load paper, ready, and continue will all be lit.
press cancel slowly 4 times or until just toner low lights up. each time you press cancel, the light sequence should change
when just toner low is lit, press and hold continue button until lights cycle up and down in sequence.
release continue.. toner low will be lit again
turn printer off, wait 10 secs or so and then back on
press continue button to print off settings page and check under cartridge information, photoconductor value is 0K (zero)
After you replace the imaging drum, you should reset the imaging drum's counter. To reset the counter, press and hold the Cancel button until all lights flash in sequence.
When all lights flash it's a service problem. You press and hold the go button and see what lights are on then.error light means main PCB failure, Toner light means fuser failure, drum light means laser failure. Toner and error light means main motor error, drum plus error light means its a fan failure.
After replacing fysicalythe photoconductor/imagaging drum, leave the door open. Press and hold Cancel untl all lights flash in sequence to reset the printer. Close front cover.
Leave the printer on. Open the front and hold down the cancel button until all the lights are flashing in sequence. Close the front while still holding the cancel with the lights flashing and then release the cancel button. This should reset it.
After replacing the drum unit you have to tell the printer that you've done it(it's not smart enough to figure it out itself). Have the front door open and press and hold the Cancel button on the printer until all lights flash in sequence then let go. Then close door and try.
First unplug power cord and plug back after 10 mins. If problem persists, then it is probably a toner error, if the toner is nearly finished. In this case you will see the led flashing only when is printing. Sooner or later the printer will start printing blank or faded pages and you will need to change toner When is not toner, with same symptoms as above, it can be drum error, in this case printer will keep printing but shows flashing light, at a certain point you will need to change drum kit.
If light flashes and printer does not print, then it is either paper jam inside, or one of errors above at final stage, or one of the door not well closed (check them all), or printer faulty (fuser, heads mechanics etc.), in this last case call service.
