That is a common issue with the last generation of the phillips big screens, the best answer for this is one that i got at a meeting with phillips service several years ago. On philips the tv will not show a picture till the tubes are balanced out, simular to sony, but in a phillips if the white balance is not correct the picture and sound will be muted till all three tubes have warmed up enough to produce a good white balance. As the set ages the tubes become weaker and this procesess takes longer.

Magnavox big screen has dull picture and colors are not clear. Cloudy picture and has a green film of color over screen. this ia a 64inch big screen. What can

This is especially common with Phillips/Magnavox - A foggy image usually suggests that the coolant in the picture tube(s) (1or all 3) has become discolored and needs to be replaced. The only way to check this is to look directly into the crt faces (disassembly required) to see the condition of the fluid (coolant).
It's a relatively big job that shops charge between $300-400 - Get an estimate. See link for Kit

Sound but no picture is it the picture tube or just another problem

most likely will not be the tubes mate, if the tubes go then you just get a big mix of red green and blue colours in the screen - sound but no picture is more likely to be the starter unit on the flat screen.
flat screens have a starter unit - mine went on a samsung but under warrenty

Picture on big screen

Chances are, if it's an older set, componants have changed value through use over time, which also includes the picture tubes and associated driver circuits. The way to compensate for this color drift is through adjustments. Either turn the red down a little, or turn the blue and/or green UP. Be carefull though as there are potentially dangerous voltages in and around the circuit boards and picture tubes.

Phillips 55' tv big screen

You should check and see if the red tube is showing any light. The green and blue make yellow when the red tube stops working. If it is showing red but looks dull, you will need to change out the fluid inside the tubes, as it is corroded. I will post a fluid change procedure on the repair tip for this set. I cannot post it here as they will not let me. They say it is too long. Go figure. They do not let you post what you want I guess.. Good luck with your repair.
