This seems to be quite a common problem, you will need to upgrade the Hp drivers on your window 7 computer's..

At its fastest, the Deskjet 1280 only prints at 14 pages per minute, and this number decreases if you print in color, use a higher resolution, or use larger than 8.5" x 11" paper.
To increase print speed, try dropping the print resolution from 600x600 (Best) to 300x600 (Fast), and if you are printing something that doesn't have any color, make sure you select black and white in the print properties, rather than color.
Could it just be that the black cartridge has run out? If not, try and clean the print heads. You should be able to do this in the printer options in Windows. It is more than likle that the black nozzle is blocked.
This may be a setting on the computer you're trying to print from. In the printer properties menu (accessible from the print dialog box or from the printers list in control panel/settings), and Printing Preferences, you may have options selected which cause the printer to print only in black and white. Try exploring these settings thoroughly.
I had the same problem. Didn't find the answer. I removed the HP 1280 driver and installed HP 1220 Driver. It worked. It prints all the sizes perfectly. What is in name if we get the prints on A3 size. whether it is HP 1280 or HP 1220 :)

some printers share the ink from color to black but you can select if you wants to use only black just go to printer than properies than select to use only black but you probably have to remove the empty color one

This is Romeet,i will try and assist you with this. Try un-installing the printer software and delete the printer from the " Printers and Faxes " option. Restart the PC and do a clean installation?
