When doing convergence you start with number 1 x and move to all odd numbers, then you go back and fix the even number. You have to do this until all of the x's are lined up with all the colors.

When the screen is dark there are lines that run back and forth across the screen which is only noticable when pitcure is dark immage.

the screen bias needs to be turned down-ehind the front cover which is behind the grille there is a small black square about 3 inch square 6 little knobs sticking out 3 say in small letters screen and 3 say focus, don't adjust the focus just the screen for the coresponding color that shows up when picture is dark.best way to do this is darken the room and put it on video input with no signal if lines are white slowly
adjust 1 color after the other counterclockwise untill
lines disappear if only 1 color shows then only adjust the knob with the matching color. this is a very fine adjustment, to much will make your auto focus stop working. check it after you are done

It is like looking at 3d in all three colors. i

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Horizontally the picture is distorted (doubled). Sound is ok. we have a 52 inch RCA big screen tv.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

I have a 52 inch RCA projection tv. Where are the color adjustment screws on the back of the tv that everyone keeps telling me about?

This is Chassis PTK195-There are screen/focus adjustment knobs (red green and blue) at the front of the set - behind the speaker grill and front access panel.

Problem with 52 inch RCA projector t.v

It sounds like the CP150 and or the CP114/120 capacitors need to be replaced, they cost around 3 dollars each and can be found at Radio shack or you can order them from http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/ and they will send instructions with them.

Off color

hummm i wonder if you may have lost one of your projection tubes... like red or blue.. that would be my first instinct and i would have to remove or at least get the screen loose enough to see if all tubes are lighting. tube replacement on these are somewhat difficult and expensive. 250 just for the part and prob another 250 for labor. but if its not the tube it could be screen control adjustment of focus pack.. so here hopeing..
