I have a dell inspiron 1501 thinking of changing I use my comp mostly for email shopping and playing a game called second life ,,its really needs high end graphics Im not sure what to buy can anyone give me some advice on what would be best,,,, not sure if i should go for a laptop again or a desktop?

Yes, you can add Wireless to a desktop, on that link there is an option for a Dell Wireless 1525 card for $40, or you can add one later either PCI or U
this is a sign of a memory and board issue.. try re-searing the ram.. if doent work it is a boad problem.. if you have warrenty call dell to replace motherboard.

Laptops are not ment for playing heavy games that require strong graphic card and heavy RAMs...
Generally this is an indication that the battery has failed. The normal life span of a PC battery is 300 to 500 recharge cycles (Roughly 12 to 18 months) so the most likely answer is buy a new battery since this one is already out of warranty
