There's no red. green and blue work fine. Have tried adjusting colour ratio in menu. Red is black there too. There has sometimes been a single red dot projected, no bigger than that of a laser pointer. Obviously changing bulb makes no difference. A common problem? Is there a DIY solution (i.e. replace part) or is an expert needed, and how much might that cost? thanks alot in advance mike

simple. easy. you have 3 screen adjustments. red green blue. turn color all the way down. you should then get just a black and white picture, but in your case, it will still be reddish. behind the speaker grill is an access panel for screen adjustment. remove speaker grill. remove access panel. you will see a block assembly roughly 6 inches square with 6 knobs on it. 3 are for screen, 3 are for focus. adjust until you have a black and white picture. then go into menu and turn your color back up. enjoy!
There should be colour settings under the "picture" tab in the menu. In the colour settings you can change the level of green, blue and red (the 3 that make white) Here you can scale the green back to make it closer to equal with blue and red

Are you getting this on all video outputs from the DVD? the yellow analog out + the red/blue/green + the S video?
Did you try connecting a different source? a digital cable TV tuner, or another DVD player?
sometimes DVD players get screwed on some outputs, while the rest stay fine. I have a DVD that has an analog video out that shows an only black and white picture, while the red/blue/green works fine.
Good luck
try replacing the colour wheel,or the vga/dvi/video cable.
