This sounds like a problem with the AC charger not providing enough power. The battery never charges enough to maintain power during boot. See if you can borrow a charger to check (maybe from a local shop), or buy one (since you'll probably need one anyway). Don't over pay. I see them on eBay for $12 or so. I bought one recently from a local shop for $25. That should give you a ballpark price. Post your zip code, maybe someone here can help you.

Dell precision m6300 battery won't charge.

You say it's a new battery. Is the battery the same EXACT spec? Some aftermarket batteries don't work well with your laptop. The pin-out/connections may be incompatible. That said, in your BIOS is there a "Battery Learning" section.

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. It has shut down on me in the middle of my session and now will not come back on. I plugged in the adapter for it to charge a few mins then the charging light shows but...

Don't think as a battery error, if you can use without the battery ,pls check with ac adapter without battery.because there may be a short circuit with charging unit or power side, you have to test before blow up the unit. if blow up chip or mos fet, it will be hard to repair.

Dell inspirion 1501 laptop, not charging battery light showing red, have bought a new mains adaptor but still not charging

Does the back dc jack seem loose when you have the ac adapter plugged into it? Wiggle the cord right where it plugs into the laptop. If it moves around then most likely the dc jack on the inside has one of it's 3 points of contact broken. This means that someone would need to re-solder that contact or put a whole new jack into the laptop. Another thing to try is replacing the battery. Sometimes they won't charge because they are bad. Another thing to try is take the battery out, plug it into the adapter, turn it on, get into windows, shut down, put battery back in, turn on. See if that resets the battery and makes it charge.

TOSHIBA U400 running VISTA; When I am on battery and get low i plug in so i can continue working but even though the lighted icons on the laptop show it is plugged in and charging and the toolbar icons...

Yes it is, seems there is some problem with the power state detection and changing of the load mode. Might by a physical problem, so I am not sure you can fix it.
At least check your power plan details and see if there is any error with the ACPI devices in the device manager.
In general, if you use the laptop when plugged, you should take out the battery to maximize the battery life (prevents useless load cycles).
Also configure Windows to optimize battery usage.

Toshiba satellite m35 power issues

Hi !
While power off, disconnect the power adaptor.
Take off battery.

Plug the power adaptor back and try to start !
Is it running?

If yes, than the power adaptor is OK.

Now shut down and disconnect the power adaptor.
Put back your battery and start!
Leave it untill you 'empty' the battery.
Do not start your laptop.

Plug the power adaptor and do not start your laptop yet.
Is there a led idicator showing that the battery is charging ?
Does it shows when the battery is full charged (e.g. red/yellow=charging, to green/off charged)?
If not, leave it for at least 3 hours. After that, start your laptop (adaptor is plugged) and see if you still have an icon saying charging 99%.

If that is the case, then something is wrong with the battery.

Check your warranty, and replace it.
DO NOT OPEN the battery - nothing interesting you will find inside - nothing you can do !

Regards.

Battery and or charger

Try removing the battery and see if the laptop works with the AC adaptor. If not either the AC adaptor is bad or the motherboard is defective.
If your battery LED flashes (yellow or Amber) or is solid Yellow or Amber color, this usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.
As for the error message “failed DST short test 1000-0146”, this is flagging an error on your hard disk drive. This could be caused by a bad hard drive or just needs to be reformatted.
