You need the Installer CD to install and recover you Windows OS.

You can purchase for a new Windows Vista Installer or you can barrow from a friend.

Have you activated this before? If so a recent update might have caused this. So you can contact them or can check their site / remove the update. If its a pirate version you have installed genuine software using the internet or have reset the timer. (Since its installed in year 2007). So you have to either purchase a key + activate the key or stop the activation timer using a third party software (not recommended since its piracy). If you update the system (not in a genuine copy) it would cause similar problems. Thanks

Laptop starts to boot then screen goes black
when the windows are going in the booting and it is colored black, the problem can be wrong with the windows or set the mode dual setting LCD 1st graphic assign it, try to use external LCD Monitor or connect to back of laptop

I have a Aspire 3680 Laptop/Notebook 80GB 14-WXGA Vista HomeBasic 9980286710 PC Notebook. The problem is that when you turn it on it only boots as far as the windows logo screen and then it goes black.
Press the start button then hold down F8 to go to a black screen with writing. Scroll to boot windows to last known good boot (maybe not exact words, but do last known good start) Click that option and windows should boot to the last good start of your computer.
