My cooling and heat pump quit working and the fan outside does not come on. If you push in the contactor in the fan comes on and sounds like the compasator does to.

Back in the winter the heat pump quit working so I used the heat strip. The temp has rizen so I turned the air on no go. The unit inside comes on but the unit outside does not neither does the contactor. I have 240 going to the out side unit and 26 volts on the power for the control board.

If you set the thermostat inside low enough for the a/c to kick on does the indoor fan come on? Check the outside unit, is the contactor pulled in? Check these 2 things and let me know what you find.

Check the voltage at the contactor where the 24 vac connects to the coil for the contactor so you can see if it is making it that far. It will be 2 smaller wires that are not connected to the 240 vac. Let me know if you have 24 vac there. The thermostat will have to be calling for air for the 24 vac to be present. let me know what you find.

My HVAC system tries to come on. The coil heats up, but then the fan doesn't come on. The only capacitors (two) are outside with the heat pump. The circuit board c800796p01 has a solid green light.

a capacitor to a motor, outdoor unit has two motors, a fan and compressor motors. Indoor unit has a fan motor and a capacitor for it. Check the wiring diagrams.
Coil heats up? meaning contactor solenoid coil gets power? or, compressor starts up and radiator coil temp. heats up?
of the three motors, two outside and one inside, does one motor not work? if so, will need to check for power at motor leads and capacitor

Hello. Sounds like you do have power. That spring loaded plastic switch is a 24v contactor. It pulls in when energized. If you push it in manually everything shoud run normal. Ck your 24v transformer. On one side (feed) you should have 115v or 220v depending on what kind of transformer is used likely (115v). Coming out of the transformer you should have 24v. If not you need a new transformer. You will need a mutimeter for this. If you know you have power where the wires are connected then you know how to use a mutimeter. Only way to know for sure outside of manually pushing in the contactor. Good luck. Be sure to kill the power before making repairs.

I was leaning towards a bad contactor. Either sticking sometimes or not making good contact. I would inspect the contactor for pits or burn marks near the contacts. DO SO WITH POWER OFF of course...but, what's the reset button you are referring to?? I'm assuming this is a heat pump, please send model number!!

Goodman AC Unit with Heat Pump - Works great cooling when switched to heat the outside unit does not come on - inside comes on and uses emergency heat? What can I check? I first checked the contactor and...

Because the outdoor unit works in cooling, it sounds as though the contactor and other components outside are working correctly. The problem sounds as though it might be somewhere in your thermostat. Has the thermostat been replaced recently? If so, make sure it was wired correctly. If not, check all of the connections and contact points in your thermostat. In order for your outdoor unit to run, you must have 24vac at your "C" Common and "Y" connections. You must have this in COOL mode. Now it has to be determined why you don't have it in HEAT mode. Definitely a thermostat issue.

Hope this helps and good luck! :-)

Ruud heat pump makes a clicking sound

Many thermostats have a setting to keep the fan running instead of cycling with the compressor. Check its settings.
