You probably need to check your audio controls in your computer's
control panel to make your headset the default audio device and also
make sure your softphone control panel is set the same way.
The softphone does not detect audio hardware.Depending on the softphone you may need to choose in settings the hardware device for input/output, ensure you have done so. If that does not work, check speakers and mic installation in Ubuntu.
Make sure that the subnet for the call manager is available over your VPN if you have locked the tunnel down. Also make sure that the IPC is allowed to bind to the VPN virtual network card.

Now, admittedly, this was an easy search. I'm sure there are others, but I checked the DLs on this site, and they seem to be working fine - and without any bugs attached.
That phone looks exactly like the one I use from sjlabs.com. I have a SIP account with FWD on mine. The router should have nothing to do with it unless you are behind a corporate router with strict ACLs. The soft phone is software based. Just make sure your STUN server and SIP proxy is set up correctly. The Xlite should provide all the info needed,
Yes, If your phone supports SIP then you should be able to program any service provider. On the other hand if this is a Skype only phone then you will not be able to use it with any other service besides Skype because they use a non-standard protocol. I tried looking up your phone and the closest I came was : http://www.amazon.com/Philips-VOIP8411B-37-Phone-System/dp/tech-data/B000ND75FW/ref=de_a_smtd
This says in the Tech Specs that it is voip client and softphone compatible (whatever that means). It doesnt say it is SIP compatible. So look up the user manual and if it says that your phone is SIP compatible then you should be able to program any VOIP service provider (90% of them are SIP based) but if all the manual mentions is Skype and nothing else, then you might be out of luck. Hope that helps! -AM
