When I have the wireless router hooked up, I cannot complete downloading files or watching online video. Everything works fine when router is not hooked up. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
When you say that everything works when the router is NOT hooked up to the PC, does that mean that you have the DSL modem connected directly to the computer?
then, when you hook up the router, you're connecting it BETWEEN the DSL modem and your computer?
You probably need to log in to your router and set it up to connect through the DSL modem to the internet: it may not do it automatically.
is this computer running windows XP?
if so, go to control panel, then network connections.
if you double click on the local area connection, and go to the support tab, it should list something like this:
Address type: assigned by DHCP
IP address: 10.0.1.100
Default gateway: 10.0.1.1
Try opening internet explorer, and typing in the numbers it lists for default gateway. hopefully, that will bring up the configuration screen for your router.

I have an Ativa Wireless G Router AWGR54.
I'm a total novice in this area, but hopefully I can sufficiently answer your question. The router is hooked up to the PC where the DSL modem would be plugged in. The DSL modem is plugged into the back of the router. It doesn't appear that this router can be turned off. I currently have the router unhooked, so we can do what we need on the PC.
Thanks for the help! After calling Ativa customer support for the 3rd time in 2 days, I finally was able to resolve this issue with a firmware update.
I need help downloading to get my router to working.
can you describe the layout of your network? What is your wireless router being hooked TO, and how do you connect to the internet when the wireless router is not turned on?
