It's tough. For all that TASCAM touts this is not a user friendly system. I find that assigning compression to one track, removes my reverb from every track. It seems only one effect can be used at a time, and that effect effects them all. Tascam sucks. Never again!

Pmp4000 unit. can i designate different effects to different channels at the same time?

only 2 effects can be used at a time. you assign the effects in your lil digital section in the master part of the board by turning the black knobs so the lit up numbers change to the effect you want then push the black button to lock it in. at which 2 of your aux's ( the last 2 i think its 5 and 6 ) control the SEND to your EFFECTS and the fader below the selections control the amount of effects goes into the MIX.

When i play the keyboard and record it. it does not playback what i just performed when i record drums it plays back fine only the keyboard. im using the mpk49

I'm not familiar with Reason 5, but many midi track recorders need each instrument assigned to different midi chanels to be heard back. Check the manual in how to assign the midi tracks. Also, the playback has to be through a unit that is multi timbrel capable. Good luck!

I am trying to record in multi track mode-want to know how to record for example vocals on track one then without erasing the vocals add for example harmony or guitar so i get two things on one track. At...

How multitrack recording works is assigning each recording to a different track. A way around this is to record the vocals to track one, then your harmony to track two. Save that as a single recording, or mixdown, then open that saved mixdown to track one. You may need to be connected to a computer to do this.

I use the same technique when using Cool Edit Pro (outdated, yes, but I've been using it for 4 years, and I know most of the ins and outs), especially on the guitar tracks, where for studio sound, you've gotta use 4 total tracks. Putting two tracks together frees up your processor, and uses less in the way of effects, as well.

Hope that helps!

I have a MIDI problem with the Obey 40 - basically it's very erratic in accepting midi instructions. I have about a dozen banks of scenes created and one chase and I'm trying to set up my MIDI files to...

I am assuming that you are imbedding the changes in the midi sound files themselves. They will need to be on a separate track with the correct midi channel assigned at the beginning of the track.

How to use an external effects processor on the tascam neo

Manual here:http://www.fullcompass.com/common/files/10255-Tascam%202488-neo%20manual.pdf If you look at the back you will see two effects sends. Apparently from the manual you can use the line inputs for returns. This is where it might become confusing. Each line in is also a TRS jack. That means that using a common guitar or unbalanced cable will make the jack act as an input. If you use a shielded !/4" stereo cable( stereo jacks on each end) then the jacks can send a signal and receive a signal. If your effects unit has one of these jacks also you just need the proper cable. If not you use a cable with ends that match your unit and the Tascam. There are several combinations of effects assignment available and you should consult the manual carefully. I would recommend joining a support or users forum for this unit. Try this one:http://www.sweetwater.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25978 or this one:http://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=276889 The last one is a site worth joining and I highly recommend it.

Can't get Casio CTK 601 / 611 to function as MIDI Contrller

I'm not at home right now where all my manuals are so I'll try to explain with out. You will have to set it so that the keyboard is the slave device. Try setting it to Omni receive. It has to be able to listen for all midi channels at once. You have to write a sequence on your computer and hook it to your keyboard by using midi out on the computer to midi in on the keyboard in order for you to use the computer as a controller. If you need the keyboard to create the sequences then you have to hook the midi send on the keyboard to the midi in on the computer play/enter your notes into individual tracks in your software then assign channels, voices etc to each track and save the sequence. Then when you hook it up the other way the sequence will play just like an audio recording except the sound w2on't be there. What you have recorded by creating a sequence is a series of midi messages that the keyboard will receive if you have it set properly and hooked up ptroperly which it will translate into sound. This is a minimalist explanation at best. You will have to have a better understanding of not only your keyboard but also your software and midi in general. There are some pretty amazing things you can do with midi. For instance if you have a lighting controller that is midi capable you can i,mbed all the lighting scene changes for your song in order on one track. You can also control your guitar effects pedal to change effects automatically while your playing. Once you get a handle on it you are only limited by your imagination and your budget. Hope this helps in some way.
