The screen on my camcorder just stopped working. It just displays a black screen. I can't tell if it is recording or not, I tend to doubt it. I have gone through all the troubleshooting pages of the manual without any luck.

This problem is mostly a faulty pick up device.
unless you have some electronics skill, this repair should be left to a professional repairman.

OK, that means you can see clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes and camcorder just wont give you live view to record any more. If its true then it is known problem/ failure of ccd imager in your JVC GR-D33 camcorder. JVC will repair it free of cost, click JVC CCD Imager Advisory for details. Thanks.
See my post of before. I just knocked the camera on the floor by mistake and it miraculously started working again after years. Shows it must be mechanical and not related to software.
No Prob...I had the same problem with my GR-D72U. There is a defect in the CCD image sensor. JVC will fix it for FREE! All it will cost you is shipping it to them. Go to http://www.jvcservice.com/service/CustNoticeCamcorder.asp?PgReq=DspDtaDtl&MdlNbr=GR-D72US&Pgm=CCD , download the rapair request... Send it off to your nearest service center and they ship it back all fixed up in less than a week. I must tell you though, you ONLY have until Dec. 31 2008 to do this. Not only did they fix mine, they cleaned the heads but also buffed out a scratch. After you get yours fixed, post as many helps as you can to others.

the ccd image sensor of your camera is the
problem...i know it is free for replacing that sensor..that trouble is
also in sony,canon,samsung and the other cameras brand cause the
manufacturer of their sensor is only one company that why they recall
it from the batch of 2002 to 2004..log on to the jvc costumer care to
see all the detail...
