-Is the printer installed on your computer?
-If not,install the software that came with the printer.[MP Navigator EX program]
-Open the program and switch on the printer.
-Insert the pictures to scan into the documents feeder.
-Press scan on the printer.
-The pictures will scan into the EX program from where you can retrieve them.

You are in the mode to initiate the scan from your PC. Go to your computer and use MP Navigator EX software and select the 1-click feature then "save to PC". it will autostart your scan for you and ask you to save it to your computer.

I found these directions from your Canon PIXMA MX310 User's Manual online (page 24). Other functions are available for reading.

To make sure you have got the correct program that you are using, uninstall all associated programs from your computer thru "Programs and Features" that can be found in Control Panel. Then, you may download your printer's drivers and softwares thru this LINK. Make sure to download the appropriate version for your Windows.



NOTE: Keep in mind that the drivers and softwares are limited to the manufacturer's release.

Scanning using the Operation Panel

You can scan documents using the operation panel.
Important

Do not disconnect or connect the USB cable while the machine is in use.

In Windows XP, the program selection dialog box may open when you press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine for the first time. In that case, select MP Navigator EX, then select Always use this program for this action and click 'OK'. From the next time, MP Navigator EX will start automatically regardless of the selected scan mode.

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel

1. Place the document face-down on the platen.

2. Press the Scan button on the machine.

The machine enters Scan Mode.

3. Press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine.

MP Navigator EX starts on the connected computer. Scan documents on the platen or ADF (Auto Document Feeder) using MP Navigator EX.

- press "scan" button, then press "start" button (either black or color)
- a small window (MP Navigator EX - MX310 series) should appear on your computer screen
- you can then choose one of the option there
- place a document or photo you want to scan on the canon plate face down
- then back to your computer screen and click "scan"

i have iMac and the pop up window says (MP Navigator EX - MX310 series) when i press "start" button on Canon
now i'm not sure if it'll say (MP Navigator EX - MX310 series) on windows PC
