Maytag Bottom Freezer not working

We just bought a used Maytag bottom freezer and it was working perfectly for about 2 weeks. Everything was frozen. Now today the freezer isn't pumping ice cold air. The ice cubes are still frozen, but ice cream and bread have completely thawed. These items are on the top shelf and near the opening of the door. But the door is air locked tight.
What could be the problem?

Marc of Nc. check to make sure the fan in the freezer is operating when the compressor is on. The only thing the fresh food section gets its cool air from is the freezer. and if the fan is not operating no cold air will get up there. If the fan is running you need to make sure the air duct is not blocked with frost of the evaporator is not iced up. Check that out and get back with me if there still is a problem. Good Luck

SOURCE: We have a Whirlpool gb22dk

1st.Check the freezer door gasket for any place it maybe torn or not making a 100% seal when you close the door. That would make temperature drop. 2nd.take off bottom kick plate so you can look under the refrigerator.Using a flashlight make sure there is not alot of lint / dust stuck on the coils .If there is remove it carefully and you will see temperature lower. PLEAS RATE THIS!

SOURCE: Top freezer food gets freezer burn fast and now ice cubes and ice

Your discribing 2 opposite symptoms. But 1 thing may be causing both. first thing I think of is a defective defrost heater safety switch. It allowes the food -and freezer compartment to become too warm during defrost. This allowes the food to un freeze. then when defrost is terminated the temp goes back under freezing til the next defrost. 3 to 5 cycles like this and yes you could ahve freezer burn and icecream melting. DOes the ice cream refreeze too? If so you have to remove the freezer pannel covering the evaporastor coil inside the freezer. Locate the defrost safety.

1 of 3 kinds 2 opf these are b8-metal switches and are round and of these 2 kinds 1 is about nickel size and the other is about quarter size and both are round and can be attached to the coil tubing or the freezer wall. Usually these 2 kinds are on Refg/Freezers with no electronics on the door or thermostat.

If you have an Led or LCD display you ahve electronic controls and in most cases have an electronic thermisitor about 1" long and 1/4 to 3/8 inch dia and insulated and attached to the freezer coil line leaving the freezer or on one of the U bends of the coil. It may be attached with a plastic wire tie. (The tie could be broken but this is doubtful from discription).

1st freezer burn is usually caused by drying out of the food while still frozen. And this is why your case is so interesting by doing it so quickly. In all cases 1 the food is not in air tight containers. And the water in the food is being drawn out of it.

SOURCE: Ice cream and bread don't freeze, food in frig DOES freeze

Not fixed but I do not want to spend MORE money to find out what's wrong with this AMANA piece of ****. Apparently, from research on the net, the compressor or motor is not strong enough in this unit to actually do the job...but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them...

Will not dispense ice or water, beeps when lever is pushed, no interior light in frig part. both frig and freezer work, freezer light works

Your inlet tube that goes to the icemaker may be frozen. To Check: Shut off water supply to Fridge, disconnect the water line that goes to the icemaker at top back. Use a flexible item to insert in the water line connection. I used a zip tie. If the flexible item won't all the through to the ice maker, the line is frozen. Thaw out the tube from inside the freezer with a hair dryer. Re-connect everything, you now have ice . . . Solution #2: You may have to replace your "Water Inlet Valve" located at bottom right rear of Fridge. Easy to do, just follow the color codes, be sure and shut off the water.

Do a manual defrost overnight by unplugging and leaving the doors open the opening should not be frozen. Alot of humidity or constantly opening the door sometimes causes the frostup.

Maytg Top Mount Freezer drip tube leaks into bottom of Refrigerat

Just had this problem a few weeks ago. tube from freezer was frozen solid 1-2 feet down from the freezer. Empty EVERYTHING out of the the Fridge and the freezer into coolers or other suitable 2-4hr container(s). Unplug the unit and use a hair blow dryer on the coolest warm setting. If it's too hot it may melt plastic or styrofoam parts. As long as long as you have everything out and it's going to be at room temperature for a while, why not clean it totally out with fantastic or your favorite cleaner. Once your sure the clog is gone from the tube, put it all back together, plug it in and stop being a slob and keep it clean!!!! hehehehehehe

Water leaking from bottom of freezer door, and ice buildup on bottom of freezer

The defrost drain line in the freezer has frozen closed. Turn off the fridge. Remove the freezer bins. Use a hair dryer to thaw the drain hole on the bottom rear shelf of the freezer.

P.S. Your fridge is on recall from Maytag for a defective start relay.

Fridge not staying cool, freezer still freezing

Try defrosting freezer, sometimes when the defrost thermostat fails it causes ice too build up behind the walls of the freezer then it restricts the air flow to the refer side. If it works after defrosting then you probably need to get a new defrost thermostat.
