Error code F28 indicates that one of the below part is bad

  • Motor Control Unit (8540135)
  • Microcomputer Machine Control Unit (8540788)

If you find either the MCU or the CCU(Microcomputer Machine Control Unit) you can fix it,

Here's the online repair manual for Whirlpool Duet Sport, but its identical to your HE2.

Refer page# 4-20 it describes how to get to MCU.

F28 error code

I have a LG washer and dryer and mine get a PF code for power failure. I don't know if that's helpful or not. Contact the manufacturer for information on what the different codes mean. You can also look at the booklets that came with your machine. A lot of times, manufacturers will have the user manual online at their site.

Code 28

Error code F28 = Serial Communication Error. Error codes can be caused by a Power Surge or other electrical anomaly, attempt to return the washer to operation by following the Hard Reset procedure below. In some cases the control can be non-functioning or may not accept activation from the control panel. To clear and restart the control follow the these steps:

  • Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the unit to the power source by turning the breaker back on or plugging the unit back into the wall outlet.
  • Press the Pause/Cancel/Stop button twice to clear the display.
  • Start a short cycle to check the operation of the machine by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the machine starts.

My Whirlpool Duet Front Load Washing Machine is showing a F28 error. What does that mean?

F28 is a communication error which usually means there is a connection that has come loose. Removing the top and unpplugging and replugging the connectors in will fix 75% of these codes. If the bottom toe panel is not on it will also give you an F28

    ERROR CODE F28

Unplug the machine at the mains. Remove the detergent tray. Reach all the way back with your hand in the slot where the detergent tray normally fits and feel for a lever. When you find it pull it forward. Then replace the detergent tray. Plug the machine back on and the error code will have reset and the machine will be useable again.

Washer starts fills w/water tumbles clothes for a few min. then stops and flashes f28.

I took the top and bottom panels off the washer, followed the wiring and vacume lines, and found a small hole in the vacume line. I replaced the vacume hose and started washing. Everything is working great.
