Yes. Usually they either work or they don't so obviously when they test good they should charge the battery. Dell laptops have a "data pin" that determines what wattage of power cord is plugged. If this data pin goes bad on the power cord or motherboard the laptop won't charge.

My battery won't charge even if I replaced it with new battery.

If your battery will not charge, you need to run a test on some components on the laptop. The battery, the charger and the laptop itself. Once you detect the faulty conponent then you replace it with a new one.

To test the battery:
1.Power off the laptop,
2.Take out the battery,
3.Insert it in another laptop,
4.Check of it will charge,

If the battery holds a charge there, then it means the problem is not from the battery, but if it does not hold a charge, then it means the battery is defective and need to be replaced with a new one.

To test the charger:
1.Unplug the charger from the present laptop,
2.Connect it to another laptop to see if it will charge.

If it charges the laptop, then it means the charger is alright, and if it does not charge the laptop, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.

To test the laptop:
1.Turn off the laptop,
2.Disconnect your present charger,
3.Remove your present battery pack,
4.Insert a well tested battery into the laptop,
5.Connect a well tested charger to the laptop.

If it powers on, then it and charges, then it means the laptop is working fine, but if it does not charge, then it means the connection port of the laptop is bad.Hope this information was helpful.

How to Charge a Car Battery Using a Battery Charger

If you find yourself with a dead battery in your car and have access to a battery charger you are only some time away from being on the road again. Whether you are using a small car charger known as a trickle charger or a larger unit on wheels, you can charge your battery effectively. There are safety concerns though. Be sure to check the warnings
1、Locate the battery or remote charging point by consulting the owner’s manual. You can also open the hood to find the battery. The laptop battery may be under a seat, in which case a charging point may be provided under the hood.
2、Remove any plastic covers that may be protecting the positive and negative posts of the battery. Just push the covers to the side as they are usually pliable. Note the location of positive and negative terminals signified by a plus and a minus sign respectively.
3、Locate the laptop car charger so that its cables will reach the battery. Make sure your charger will reach an electrical outlet. Add an extension cord if needed.
4、Place the clamps of the charger on the battery making sure that the red handled clamp goes to the positive battery post and the black handled clamp goes to the negative laptop batteries post. If you are not sure, trace the cable attached to the clamp back to the charger and look for a positive or negative designation. If you are still not sure, stop and seek professional advice.
5、Plug the charger in, making sure that the selection switch is set to off.
6、Select the appropriate voltage and or rate (almost all cars have a 12 volt system). If time permits choose the slower rate and plan on charging the battery for two hours. This selection will turn the charger on. If the charger has a timer, set it.
7、After charging the battery, unplug the charger, disconnect the charger’s cables and start the car.

Will keeping the ac plug connected kill my battery on Dell latitude d610?

I will suggest you to use laptop after it is full charge by removing the charger . when ever you feel battery is down then you can plug in the charger and keep using it, and when ever you see battery is full then remove the charger.
I'll not suggest you keep plugged in the charger when you are done, this way it can effect your Battery. and yes your battery can die with in a year if you are not follwing the correct way to use it.

How many hours we should charge the battery fist time Nokia-2700

There are basically 3 types of chemicals currently being used for cell phone and laptop batteries. Ni-cad, Ni-mh and Li-ion. There is a fourth makineg its way in Li-ion polymer. A couple things are consistent for all types of batteries no matter what chemical is inside. You must initially give the battery a 12-14 hour charge on the home charger. (Don't use a cigarette adapter for the first charge. This conditions the battery and don't take it off the charger that first time even if the charging indicator says it's full after 3 hours. Also the manufacturer's also state to run it thru 3 charge cycles. What that mean's is that you fully charge and fully drain 3 times. 1 full charge + 1 full drain = 1 charge cycle. Here's where the way you charge the battery starts to differ.

Ni-cad: Mostly only on older devices, has a "memory" effect, should be drained before a full charge is put on it, should be removed after overnight charge or can be overcharged and burnt out.

Ni-mh: Still used for some devices, has slight memory effect but not enough to have to fully drain before the recharge, should not be consistently left on charger after full charge that can eventually burn out battery and shorten usage time.

Li-ion and Li-ion polymer: Used on a lot of newer devices, has no "memory" effect, should be recharged as often as possible, actually likes to be charged and draining it regularly can cause the usage time to be shortened, can NEVER be overcharged so whenever you're near a charger put it on there. Besides those benefits a li-ion battery is lighter and smaller but the chemical can hold more charge than Ni-cad and Ni-mh.

So the one reply to your question said to error on the side of draining the li-ion batteries. This is incorrect information. You want to charge the battery before it gets below a 20% charge. Also batteries will not go bad from accidentally doing the incorrect charging procedure here and there but normally follow the correct procedure. One last note try to use the home charger more often than the cigarette lighter charger for best long term results. Cigarette lighter chargers do not give a full charge (about 95%) which in the long run can damage any type of battery listed.

The charger is on but the charging indicater light is not on

You probably need a new battery. A laptop battery loses about 20% of it charge ability each year and this seems like an older laptop. The break down because the heat generated by the laptop effects the battery's chemical behavior. Try ebay for a new replacement.

IBM ThinkPad - Possible Battery Issue

Some laptops have issues when you run them leaving the battery plugged in. Shut the machine off. Remove the charger, remove the battery. Hold the power button on the machine to disapate all of the residual power. Do this for about a minute. Put the machine back together and leave the battery out. Turn it on with only the power supply. If the problem resets, then your battery is at fault. If not then your charger might be shot or the invertor inside the laptop is fried. Time to get a new one (Laptop or Charger).

Mac battery performance

The battery has a charger limiter that prevents the battery from charging when full charge is reached, therefore connecting the Mac to power with the battery inside will not affect your computer's battery life.
