Unplug every thing except /PS,CPU,and turn on
If CPU fans are running, and you do not hear any beeps
,it  is most likely a fried motherboard

Hey there sourmug, could you ask the teen what they were doing when the machine stopped working and what exactly happened. Also have you looked on the board for any bulging capacitors, either near the cpu or the Ram. Also I would pull the ram and inspect it for signs of extreme heat. If it looks fine, replace and ensure it is correctly seated. My best guess at this stage is that the ram is your problem, however more info would be helpful.

First Pull cmos cell from motherbord for 10 minutes because sometimes low voltage of cmos cell creates this problem .
After remove cmos cell from motherbord for sometime your bios settings goes to defaults.
Then check.
Also check that smps is work fine .
It is square box on back side of cpu .
Reattch ATX power connector from smps to motherbord.
Also make sure that motherbord surface not touch the cabinet.Check motherbord in outside of cpu .

Hi dallasblue08,

Here's a diagram of what your looking for:

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):

Emachine t2742 I also have a wiring problem!

gtater,
It's ironic that you ask me this question today-- i am just now carrying in another eMachine computer to fix. Anyway, unfortunately I do not have one that is the same model as yours (T2742). However, I did some quick research and found that yours has the same exact motherboard as the T2898 which I made the diagram for!

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):
T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2885 D2823 T2862 T2896 T2898 T2958

For further reference, I would like to share this diagram for the eMachines T6544 in case someone else may need this model. This is the computer I just carried in... might as well share.

By the way, the power switch doesn't need to be oriented any particular way (positive and negative), which is why the switches are not labeled as + or -. Switches can be wired either way and they will work the same.

Hope this helps.

EMachine T2824 does not turn on. Power cord/power supply seems O.K.

There are just too many eMachine models to be familiar with every one, however, as a preliminary inspection, remove the side panel, and turn the computer on to see if you see a green "Health" light. This will give you an initial clue as to how to pursue the problem. eMachines have historically had power supply problems. If you do not see a green health light on the motherboard, then your power supply is defective. A power supply supplies various voltages + - 5V, + - 12V ,etc. A power supply can be easily tested by a local shop with the proper test equipment. You might start there if you are a DIY! Short of that, you can purchase a power supply for under $65.00.

Flashing green light

Could be a power Supply fail. It is well known in the trade that Emachine power supplies are very poor. A new power supply is easy to fit and cheap.
