Miele G 646 SC, Leaking.? My Miele G646SC is leaking, the red inlet/drain light is on and I suspect it may be one of the pump seals has perished. The machine is 11 yrs old and has never had a problem of...

The dishwasher must be removed from the counter so you can gain access to the pump. I would check with a parts supply company first to see if the pump is still available, and the cost. It may be too expensive to repair a dishwasher that old.
Removing the dishwasher is not very hard. Turn off the electrical breaker. detach the DW from the counter. Pull out. disconnect the water supply and drain. disconnect power supply if required.

Hello, My dishwasher isn't draining the water away, it is approx 13 years old but not used to much in that time; Do you think I should buy a new one or get it fixed: it could be only a small problem: ...

On the whole dishwashers are simple devices.
A controller tells a pump what to do - push water around the machine or push water into the drain.
Miele machines have a very good record for lasting over 20 years.
If you are a "handy person" you could try checking the hose to the drain is clear - blocked hose won't drain.
Have you checked the filter system inside the machine - at the bottom of the d/washer under the bottom spinning arm? If this is blocked - no drain - so clean it well.
If little checks like this are all OK well its up to you - repairs could cost £60 - £80 a new Miele would be nearer £400.
Try to get it fixed its kinder to the planet - and your pocket.
Good Luck.

Dishwasher stops after 10 minutes inlet/drain light flashing

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Miele G841 Built in. Intake/Drain light on/flashing and the dishwasher just shuts down.

I had a similar problem with a different Miele. I found that under the door, there is a removable trim panel (may not be one on yours). Under the trim panel was an acoustically sealed metal plate held by a couple of screws. i switched off and disconnected the electrity, then removed the plate. The bottom tray was filled with a big puddle. I cleaned that up and put the machine back together and it ran fine. Accordingly, I'm getting some replacement shaft seals for the thing as it looks like its worth fixing. Good luck with yours. rupertvdP

Inlet/drain light has come on on Miele G892 SCU plus dishwasher how do I sort it without an engineer

I haven't worked on your model. However in general you first need to go through the user manual checks to make certain you've not got a silly. Follow their safety instructions. Manuals are available on their websites e.g. http://www.miele.com/manuals/display_manuals.aspx?bhcp=1

Check the drain pump and non return valve are OK and not blocked.

Check the inlet pipe strainer is clear, and if necessary clean it and descale it.

Check you've got water coming out of the outlet on the wall (carefully, its wet - make certain it doesn't go on the electrics)

Test the fixed drain and hose if the machine is empty by putting some water in it and then turning it on - it should drain in my experience.

If all the above is OK, its possible that the machine has leaked into the bottom tray. You'd need to shut off and disconnect the electricity then open up the bottom compartment of the machine - often a plate on the front behind the kickboard trim. If it has got water in, I'd mop it out and then put it back together. i'd then try running the machine. If it worked in that state I'd bother to replace the leaking seals e.g. on a pump shaft.

Good luck with yours.

GE Dishwasher Leaks

You can easily screw up the drain diverter arm trying to replace that seal. Repair is difficult. Pump assembly is rather expensive. (especially considering this was not a top of the line model) You would be much better off replacing the dishwasher. The new GE models are much quieter and have eliminated the center tower in almost all models.
