If only one section of the LCD is blank/black it is defective and needs to be replaced. The condition could be Horizontal section or vertical section not showing up.

The screens are about $65 on ebay, and recommend opening to get the model number before ordering because they do change vendors and sometimes it is a AUO or Samsung or LG-Phillips.

My HP Monitor refuses to turn on.. It's on but the screen is black

martineillas, Go here first, and do some reading. http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ Then do standard flashlight test to determine "full" or "partial" shutdown mode of the internal power supply. Look at rear of monitor for "date of manufacture" ?? If screen is black and blank, then supply is in full shutdown mode. If not blank, only black, then 5vdc ok, 12vdc in shutdown mode (bad) !!! Do some extensive reading in the fixya profiles of the technicians here on FIXYA. Plenty of repair documentation already been written on this type of lcd monitor repair. Always state "model number" and approximate total "on" hours of use when contacting fixya for help. Good luck with repair. 12fixlouie

Monitor picture comes on for only 1 second and then it is blank (black) Color bars appear to be OK (for that second) when running the Self-diagnosis function.

timothy henr, Do you understand how the new screw-in, curlie-Q, energy efficient, CFL light bulbs generate white light?? You will when you find out just what makes the WHITE fixya background on this web page you are looking at!!! Black screen of death can strike at any time!! Do a reply when finished with your research of repair video clips at YOUTUBE. Your search terms are: "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair." That should get you started. Your unit could have a "switch-mode-power-supply" that detects a problem with itself or another circuit and goes into "full" or "partial" shutdown mode. You should be able to tell the difference if you shine a bright flashlight 1 inch from screen when it goes black!! Partial=still see win-desktop. Full shutdown=no see desktop!!! What wil you do??? Fix or just trade up for new display?? 12fixlouie

My monitor's display is too dark that Im just able to see thats something is displayed.

kwstas125, Here is a clue. BLACK screen= partial SMPS shutdown mode. BLACK n BLANK= full shutdown mode. You or qualified "cold-
cathode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit lcd monitor technician will need to troubleshoot unit down to component level to repair unit. Dosome reading in my and other fixya tech's profiles for more info on repair/refurbishment of SMPS's and inverter supplys. Follow all links you find there. 12fixlouie

We bought a new Hannspree in November, now all at

chummel36, Find your warranty and then yell and scream at them about poor quality and premature failure, but only after you connect to a different known good pc and see if your monitor still acts crazy. Learn to do the flashlight test to determine partial or full shutdown state of monitors "switch-mode-power-supply" when screen goes black or blank n black!!! Spend some time in my fixya profile reading about black screen problems before you do anything else. 12fixlouie

It won't turn on -

hi there, it sounds like your monitor isn't receiving power, check the power cable in your monitor is connected and not partially unplugged. Second, if that doesn't work, try looking at your plug and make sure that is plugged in. If that doesn't work, you may have to buy a new monitor or give it to a friend that can repair it.

Blank screen and flashing green light near on/off switch

fred_lane, Well, it could also be just black, or both black and blank! DID you do flashlight test that every CCFL back-lit lcd monitor owner should know how to perform and interpret the results for when confronted with a black screen problem that is not caused by sleep mode?? I can only suspect a bad "switch-mode-power-supply" that is in partial or full SHUTDOWN mode due to it detecting a FAULT CONDITION with itself or the CCFL inverter circuit supply. Read other options you have open to you in my fixya profile! 12fixlouie Hope this steers you in good direction.
