Wep key is another word for password. when you set up your home network who ever set it up set it up with a password to make it more secure. which is a good thing security wise but bad when trying to gt your gaming device to connect.... this site should walk you step by step in setting up your wii and also getting a wep key. just start with first time setup link

How to work Nintendo ds wifi

  1. Turn on the Nintendo DSi
  2. Click on the wrench icon to access "System Settings."
  3. Select "Internet" on the third page of System Settings.
  4. Select "Connection Settings" and tap the "None" bar in "Connection 1."
  5. You have the option of setting up a connection manually, or searching for available connections in the area. You may also access your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector, if you have one (the product has been discontinued). The easiest thing to do is select "Search for an Access Point."
  6. Your Nintendo DSi will list the names of any wireless access points in range. A gold, unlocked icon next to the connection's name signifies an unlocked WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) connection that can be accessed immediately. A locked gold icon signifies an encrypted WEP connection that requires a WEP key (password).
  7. If you are accessing a locked/encrypted connection, enter your WEP key. You may also click "Change Security Settings" to enter a WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) key.
  8. If your WEP key is correct, your Nintendo DSi should connect. You can test your connection to verify.
  9. You're set! Now you can surf the Internet, purchase games and add-ons in the Nintendo DSi Shop, and play games that allow wireless access and competition (with WEP connections, only).

My nintendo dsi says it needs a WEP password but I dont Know what it is

You will never know a wep password unless you ask the owner of the router what it is. Using a software to know the password of a secured device is illegal. So i suggest you ask the owner what is the wep password of the wifi Or you can search for a place with a free wifi zone.
And when your choosing a connection in your nintendo DSI be sure to choose the connection with this icon. heifentrixx_18.jpg Because this icon means, that connection is shared and free to connect. You wont need any wep key or wep password to enter the connection.

Hope my solution helped. Please give some feedback regarding my solution.

The wifi on my nintendo ds lite doesn't work even though i changed the settings to WEP ..i dont know if the wep key i type in on my DS is wrong because when i type in the wep key shown on the netgear...

Welcome to Fixya

First you need to check is if the WEP key that you are entering is the WEP key of your router. Try to connect a laptop to your computer which do not belong to the network. Say, your friends laptop. This laptop will ask for a security key if it's the first time to connect to the network. Enter your security key and see if the laptop can connect to the network. If it did not connect then the problem is your WEP key.

Have a good one!

I go on cod WAW and press multiplayer then i press nitendo wifi connection when i press that it loads a bit then it says cant connect to the COD WAW servers please try again later i dont know wat to do...

Something is wrong with your wireless router. I think Wii's connection to a router is WEP-Shared,or WEP-Open. Try all of the authentications. Ok,just follow this.
1) Load up Wifi Connections and stuff.
2) Go to your computer and go to this website nintendowifi.com
3) http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/routers/index.jsp Check out which router you have.
4) If you have any of these, your lucky. Just follow this: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/getOnline/index.jsp
5) Also look under your router for the WEP key or whatever...
I hope I helped!
Sincerely, Frankwarrior.

I am trying to hook up to alspark wars on transformers ds but when i try to connect to our Wi-fi connection it asks for my WEP code and i dont know what WEP code is

The WEP code is the code that is used for security on a wireless network. It's like a password. You either need to get the WEP code from the owners of the network, or just find another wifi network altogether.

Got error code 51100 on nintenfo ds light dont know how to fix it went to support.nintendo.com but they didnt help

Error Code: 51100 The WEP key for the Access Point you are attempting to connect to has changed since you last connected.
What to do: Verify the Access Point's WEP Key is entered correctly into the Nintendo DS. If your router has slots for more than one WEP key, the first (#1) must be the one selected on your router. If you need assistance, click here and select your router manufacturer and model number. If available, our router pages can provide specific steps and information that may help you with your router's WEP Key.
If you have multiple connection files saved to your Nintendo DS, the error message you received can help determine which connection file may be experiencing a problem:
  • Errors ending in 0 = connection file 1
  • Errors ending in 1 = connection file 2
  • Errors ending in 2 = connection file 3
  • Errors ending in 3 = Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector

Every time i try to set up wifi, it asks for a wep key.

The WEP key is a security key used by your wireless internet device (usually a router). Do you know who set up your wireless internet? If so they should be able to provide you with the WEP key.
